Like many of us, Dawn was very upset by the 9/11 tragedy. She was especially moved by the firefighters and police that gave their lives trying to save others. Unlike many of us, Dawn saw this a chance to get prepared to help those in need if such a tragedy were ever to happen again in the future. She started researching "Search and Rescue" groups in the area and purchased training books and told me that the next dog she got she was going to train as a search and rescue dog.

Here are 2 poems Dawn wrote and sent me shortly after 9/11...

***************************************************

What follows is the begining of my path in the matters of our nations wounding.

This Candle

This candle

lit in remembrance

sorrow

hate

and fear.

This candle

a light of hope

solidarity

and care.

This candle

my voice of unity

unto the stars

pleading to heaven.

This candle

one light

replacing

light lost

September 11th.

This Candle.

******************************

In The Line of Duty

To each who serves.

To each in that moment of crisis.

To each who stepped into the chaos.

To each who saved one life.

To each who stayed.

To each,

who in the line of duty,

sacrificed.

Not knowing

Not caring

Not giving a moment to fear.

To each storming the Towers.

Knowing only the need

Caring only for those fleeing

Giving ultimately

In the line of duty.

Sue,

Thank you so much for having hold of these. I remembered that Dawn had written some things around the 9/11 tragedy, but I didn't have any copies of email from her that far back.

I am so glad you posted these.
