Redlynch

Lost By 1 Wkt

The first away match of the season, and all roads to Redlynch on a fine & sunny afternoon.

After losing the toss, skipper Jeffery was delighted to be asked to take first knock on a firm pitch.

Jamie Harvey 22 & Dom Duccillier 34 set a steady start with 25 on the board, until the former, now nursing a badly bruised foot fell to the bowling of Webber. Next in, the in form Ant Jeffery, disaster, out second ball. With the cock-a- hoop Webber champing at the bit, out strode a confident Milkie Johnson to stop the rot. Bang, out first ball.

With the top order ripped out in the space of an over the Coombe boys were reeling, until a steady forth wicket partnership of 48 from the reliable John Burton 27 & Matt Newman 19. The bottom order quickly collapsed to show only 123 on the board in 32 of the allotted 40 overs. Webber returning 3-26 from his 8.

13 years old Wiltshire youth player, Matt Burton 2-31 opened the bowling with partner Ben Newman. Tidy bowling & smart fielding, including a brilliant stumping by Burton Snr.standing up to the pacemen, had the home side rocking at 66-7 and the game swinging unlikely towards a Coombe victory with Ant Jeffery grabbing 4-22. However it was not to be. The last pair, Tanner 15* & Emm 8* with 24 required, batted very sensibly and saw the men from the forest to a deserved victory.
