Sixteen year old Jack Mynott on his way to 136

Won By 191 Runs

An Extraordinary General Meeting held at the pavilion on 7th April had the body of CBCC in its box waiting for the lid to be screwed on. Towards the end of this meeting, a small sign of life issued from the thought dead body, and it was decided, unanimously to resuscitate. Given an injection of new players it was hoped that the club could continue.

Here we were at Shutts Lane at the end of April with the sun a shining, the birds a singing and the kids a frolicking, with the injection of no less than four debutants put a spring firmly in the step of a once tottering club.

With the skipper away holidaying with the Mexicans, Gwilym Vaughan grabbed his mantle, won the toss and elected to bat on a firm, dry pitch.

Father and son Mynott, Tim and sixteen year old son Jack strode to the crease to open the innings. What was to follow was an innings of pure class from the young feller. He cut, late cut, drove and pulled his way to a magnificent and chanceless 136, barely hitting the ball in the air. When he passed his century, with just four overs to go, he was after Chimpy’s record of 147, smashing the ball to all corners of the ground before falling to a boundary catch by Cavell Snr, with the target well in sight. Father Tim 18 gave him good support in the early part before he fell to a smart catch at short mid on by Paige.

A cavalier 22 from Ant Jeffery, who rightly farmed the strike to his young partner before going to a well held caught and bowled by Paige.

John Burton weighed in with a firmly struck 55* leaving the visitors many thoughts to ponder at tea.

Stuffed full of homemade cake-two choccies, fruit cake, jam & cream scones and dainty fairy cakes, together with eggy and tuna sarnies, set out by the cheerful duo of Abi and Caroline- openers Young and Richards took up the challenge.

Smart fielding and catching from the home side, with their tails up proved all too much for the visitors, with only Young with a plucky 24 proving the most resistant. Nick Bird 3-22 and Ant Jeffery 2-9 the pick of the bowlers.
