Chilmark

21st Aug Home Won by 184 Runs CB 312-8 Chilmark 128 a.o.

Funny old game this cricket. Batting first the home side were reeling at 38-5, with the reliable Vaughan and former centurians Ducellier & Johnson back in the hutch after only 11 overs. Medium pacer Clegg did the damage with a fine opening spell, grabbing 3-8 in his first 4 overs. But cometh the day cometh the man, when Dan Czaicki-a friend of Dom from Southampton who answered the late call up- strode to the crease at number 5. What was to follow was quite remarkable. He took the game by the scruff of the neck, and produced one of the hardest hitting innings seen at Shutts Lane. Fifteen 4's & thirteen 6's flowed from his bat, as he made his way to a magnificent 184, a CBCC record. He was well supported by his parners at the other end, who made sure that he had the thick end of the strike. Max Bird shared a 7th wicket stand of 49. Although failing to trouble the scorers, Max was ever alert to the situation, and raced between the stumps like a whippet! Batting at number nine, Jon Burton joined in the run fest and struck a fine 88* & added a further 125 for the 8th wicket. A massive 312-8 at innings close.

The ever youthful and good friend & patron Sue Dyer provided the banquet, well up to the standard of the famous CBCC teas. A beaming Dinger Hewlett arrived with one of his seriously rich choccie cakes to add to the fare!

In reply the visitors were always looking down the barrel of a cocked shot gun in this run chase. Opener Fowles gritted his teeth & struck a plucky 74. Kinnison 22 the only other to reach double figgures. The final nail in the coffin was rammed by Matt Newman who bagged a hat trick in his 3-12
