山田恭稔ゼミでは、アジアの地域社会に主眼を置きながら、その「開発」のあり方を社会学的に捉えた持続性の観点から調査・研究を行なっています。「開発」とそれが地域社会にもたらす影響は、様々な形態の国際協力をも含むグローバルな現象です。地域社会や発展途上国における社会経済の問題や実態を把握し、持続的な開発の阻害要因あるいは促進要因を理解するためには、「地域社会を見る眼」を養う一方で、柔軟な姿勢、そして拠って立つ基本的な考え方の枠組みを身につけることが重要です。本演習は、社会学に軸足を置きつつも、様々な学問分野を学際的に駆使する開発学（Development Studies）の枠組みも借りながら、地域おこし、社会保障、教育、保健・医療、環境、ジェンダーなど、幅広い分野の「開発」に関する問題を対象とします。

 　ゼミでの研究活動は、ゼミ生が主体となって進めます。特に２、３年次では、グループによる発表や討議、フィールドワークをも含んだ様々な学習活動を通して、専門知識の習得だけではなく、チームワークの経験を積み、協調性や自己管理力を修得し、知的複眼思考力ならびに組織活動に求められる普遍的で実践的な能力を培います。これらの培った能力と準備を元に、４年次のゼミ生は各自の卒業研究に取り組みます。

　Yamada Seminar conducts research on ways of “development” from the perspective of sustainability that is sociologically viewed, while focusing on Asian communities.  “Development” and its various influences on communities are global phenomena including various forms of international cooperation.  In order to understand the socio-economic problems and actual conditions in local societies and developing countries, and to understand the factors that hinder or promote sustainable development, it is important to both cultivate the "insight into the community" and acquire a flexible attitude and a basic framework of thinking on which you can rely.  The Seminar covers a wide range of issues concerning the “development”, such as community development, social security, education, health/medical care, environment, gender, etc., while not only focusing on sociology but also borrowing the framework of Development Studies, which makes full use of various academic fields interdisciplinarily.

　Seminar students take the initiative in research activities of the Seminar.  As result, especially 2nd and 3rd year students will acquire, not only expertise, but also insightful thinking skills and universal and practical ability required for any organizational activity, by gaining experiences in teamwork and earning cooperativeness and self-management skills.  These will be cultivated through various learning activities, including group presentations and discussions as well as fieldwork.  Based on these cultivated abilities and readiness, 4th year seminar students will work on their own graduation research. 

山田恭稔ゼミでは、文献からの学びのみならず、フィールドワークを重視します。グループ研究活動の一環として、２年次後半及び３年次前半には日本国内でのフィールドワークの実施を求めます。さらに、必要に応じて、FLP国際協力プログラムの山田恭稔ゼミ「開発社会学を通して東南アジアを捉える」とも密接に連携して、ゼミ全体の運営や活動を進めます。

Not only on learning from related literature, Yamada Seminar puts keen importance on fieldwork. As part of activity for group research, during the second half of the 2nd year and the first half of the 3rd year, fieldwork will be carried out within Japan. Furthermore, when necessary, management and activities of the seminar are carried out in cooperation with FLP Yamada Seminar, whose theme is “Understanding Southeast Asia through Sociology of Development”, under International Cooperation Program of the Faculty-Linkage Program (FLP).
