Global Poverty and Inequality 

概要(Course Description)

This seminar is designed for students who are interested to conduct a research and write a graduation thesis related to international development, international cooperation, poverty and inequality, social enterprise, and sustainable development. This seminar guides students in the whole research process- from deciding a specific research theme to finalizing the graduation thesis. This seminar also involves different elements of active learning such as presentation, groupwork, debate, and fieldwork.

 

Seminar I (2nd year-Fall Semester)

This course explores the topic of poverty and inequality. The course looks at the statistical trends in poverty and inequality over the last century around the world. The course examines the various concepts and measures of poverty. The course also evaluates the different approaches in solving poverty-related problems from public policy interventions to social businesses.


Seminar II-III (3rd year-Spring and Fall Semester)

These courses examine the role of private sector in development, in general. The cases of different companies who are working towards the fulfilment of sustainable development goals (SDGs) will be discussed. The students will be trained on how to do group research. The students will also be guided on how to conduct interviews and fieldwork with relevant development agencies or businesses.

 

Seminar IV-V (4th year- Spring and Fall Semester)

These courses guide the student on their individual graduation thesis. The students are required to present updates about their research and are given the chance to hear feedback and comments.
