Mendel Medal given to Rolston 2005

Villanova University awarded Holmes Rolston the Mendel Medal on April 2, 2005.

The Medal is given primarily to scientists to recognize their outstanding contributions to genetics and to science more generally with concern for the ethical and religious dimensions of their research.

The medal is named after Gregor Mendel, Augustinian Abbot and founder of genetics who discovered the celebrated laws of heredity.

Recent laureates have included Francis Collins, physician-geneticist and director of the National Center for Human Genome Research, and Peter Raven, director of the Missouri Botanical Garden and Professor of Botany at Wasington University
