HONORS U.S. HISTORY - CLASSROOM RULES AND CONTENT

Classroom Rules - These are general guidelines. They are not all encompassing, but as high

school students, I expect you to understand your parameters. No interruptions or disruptions. Be

in your seats when the bell rings. Remain seated until I dismiss class. No gum or candy. Keep

your area clean. Do not mark on the desks. Follow school rules, especially dress code. Each

student must have their text book, history notebook, pen/pencil, and computer with them every

day.

Late work and absences - Follow the student handbook on make-up work. Late work will be

accepted, but points may be deducted for being late. (See the bottom of the page for more

explanation) Make-up tests will usually be administered in my room, and you

need to make arrangements with me. I do not usually allow make up/corrections during advisory.

Hours - I am usually in my room or in the building before (around 7:15) and after school except in the spring.

During the spring I coach track so my time in the classroom after school is limited. If

you need to see me, please leave me a note. I will not sign papers for dismissal etc. unless I am at my

desk.

Class - Discussion/Group Work/Debates/Lecture/Videos/Speakers – This class is geared for

students who enjoy the study of history and can use higher level thinking skills. The students

will have extensive reading and writing assignments and the class will consist of mostly

discussion and debates. Classroom discussion may be weighed in the grade.

Grading – Tests are approximately 60 % of the grade, essays and quizzes are the other 40%

Tests are usually multiple choice, written terms and one major essay question. You may correct

tests, but only if you have failed the test and the grade will only rise to 76% There will

be 1 to 2 essay questions each week. All essays should be typed. There may be assignments

and quizzes given in class. There will be extra credit assignments for a maximum of 20 points

per trimester. Extra credit work will be assignments from the book for both trimesters and music

quizzes in the 2nd trimester. (1st trimester - 485 A-D, 635 A-D, 2nd trimester - 817 A-D, 1008 A-D)

Extra credit work is not a group project, it is to be done by each individual student.
