I found a porcelain gravy boat and ladle. It’s glazed with a nice cobalt or royal blue, and they both have orange dots with a blak ring around them. The glaze look very flowy, and you can see where it’s dripped down and run together. I really like the contrast of the blue and orange and I like the separation of them with black. These peices are by Nolan Baumgartner, a professor at the university of Utah. He likes to use simple shapes and color on his pieces, which is reflected by this gravy boat.
I really like the simplicity of this piece. I can see it in my house or a friends, and it feels very homey. He said that these pieces are thrown, so I’m very curious as to how he got the shape of the gravy boat on the wheel. The ladle must be pulled or hand built. I can’t imagine throwing that. Overall, I really like how everything matches perfectly and has a fun and playful element to it.
