To create four equally formed tiles
To demonstrate the effects of layering glaze colors
To develop glazing skills
To contribute to a test tile wall for current and future ceramics students
Colors, contrast, craftsmanship, shape and texture can all bring attention to a ceramics piece. It depends on how well you complete them that determines the quality of a piece. Colors have to match and look good together. It helps the piece stand out if they contrast. You can contrast using texture, the shape of different parts of a piece, or by using different textures. I used original textures and the colors contrasted really well in some cases.
The glaze got darker with every layer of the same color. Glaze colors mixed when you layered different ones. They also got darker, so if you want a lighter color by mixing I would start with light colors and not do too many layers of each glaze. The top layer was also the most prominent. This didn’t surprise me, I expected these things to happen. It makes sense for color to get darker as you put more on and for colors to change when you layer them. I thought it was cool how some colors change when you fire them.
I benefited by learning and practicing my craftsman ship of clay and glazing while also learning baou texture. It gave me experience with clay and let me learn how glaze and clay reacts to the ai and the kiln. I also got to learn how to use certain tools and how to take care of them.
