Self Portraits with Text

Purpose:

• To learn how to put text with your self portrait to communicate something positive about “you”..interests, passions, etc.

• To think differently and creatively about your photographs;

• To become familiar with basic photoshop tools.

For this self portrait assignment, I got to experiment with using a manual camera through the timer mode. I think my favorite part of this assignment was downloading fonts from the font website because now I know how to find and download specific fonts. I also got the opportunity to learn more about photoshop and layer styling by playing around with font features that make your text stand out. 

Looking back on this assignment, I think I enjoy the final product more than the process. That is not to say that I did not enjoy the process since learning new Photoshop skills was fun. This assignment allowed a lot of creative thinking to flow since I had to be aware of where I should put my quote while taking my self portraits, find a stylish font and edit it, and think about text placement and text color. I think it’s nice looking at the artwork as a whole and being able to say that the process was worth it.
