Street photography is a type of photography that captures candid moments of everyday life in public places, streets, parks, and markets. The subjects of street photography can range from people going about their daily routines to street performers, to urban landscapes, and more. Street photographers often seek to capture the essence of a city or a particular neighborhood, as well as the human element that gives it life. They may use various techniques, such as candid shots, creative angles, and playing with light and shadow, to create visually compelling images that convey a sense of time and place.
Capturing street photography involves being in the right place at the right time and having a keen eye for interesting and meaningful moments. This involves being observant, patient, creative, prepared, and respectful.
Street photography is a very public atmosphere and for me personally, I am uncomfortable with just taking photos of strangers whether they’re aware of it or not. So there would be fears of judgment, confrontation, and maybe even legal issues if you’re not allowed to take photos in a certain area.
My idea for street photography would be capturing the essence of what makes that street area stick out and why it should be the subject. This could include buildings, architecture, nature, people, and objects that catch someone’s attention. I think street photography should help the viewer experience what it’s like to be a part of that community. Is it busy, urban, messy, colorful, etc.?
