Bird & Tray

Purpose: 

• Explore pinching a sculpture, texturing slabs, and utilizing unique glaze techniques 

Reflection: 

I learned many things about clay construction with these two pieces. The bird was my first clay object created. I learned how to shape clay in a short amount of time, and how clay will react when exposed to air. With the tray, I learned how to manipulate clay in creative ways, as well as how to add texture with different objects.

I learned that glazing a clay object can really elevate its appearance. With these two projects, I also learned about underglaze and how it affects clay. I think that the two pieces would have looked better if I chose different glaze colors, but I think they still look decent. If I were to change anything, I would make them complementary colors. I think the black and blue look good together, but a lighter blue would have looked better & more contrasting with the black.
