Volksschule Prandaugasse Vienna

A nice experience in Volksschule

We're Marina and Andrea, two teachers from Rossend Montané school, who have spent two days visiting Volksschule primary school in Vienna. The experience has been really enriching! Here is the journal of our visit.

Two different levels

Primary school in Vienna consists of two levels, junior stage I (levels 1/2) and junior stage II (levels 3/4). The school curriculum for all children includes objectives such as the basic techniques of reading, writing and working with numbers. In addition, the school also promotes a good understanding of the children's social environment enabling them to be tolerant of and respectful to each other.

Montessory methodology

The primary school we visited also offers new forms of learning and teaching (open learning) with the aim of promoting individual learning, self sufficiency, independence and social and cooperative skills.

This public school puts its focus on Music, the Montessory method, Art and Sports

During four years each teacher leads a specific students' group, being with them throughout the entire elementary school stage. Teachers specialize in different skills and are continuously studying to boost their knowledge in that specific field.

School magazine

The last day of our visit, the headmaster of the school, Regina, gave us a copy of the school magazine, where families can see and read about the projects and activities that have been completed during the academic year.
