Mangualde october
We spent two days visitng Mangualde. The Academy of Mangualde is the one that controls all the schools of the area (1200 students more or less). Fabio and Didi, organize all the materials and the projects so the teachers only have to apply them. They do daily meetings to talk about everything and if it’s necessary, change some things.
1st Day. 12th October 2022
WELCOME
In the morning Fabio and Didi welcomed us in the center. They explained to us how the grouping of Mangualde schools worked. The students are divided into educational centers by age, but all of them share materials.
For this reason the academi @ STEM was born.
The Mangualde STEM Academy is the result of an application by the Municipality of Mangualde to a project promoted by Intermunicipal Community of Viseu Dão Lafões, "Promotion of Educational Success Viseu Dão Lafões", to "Support the Educational Contexts and Pedagogical Practices of Success". In this context, Academi@ STEM Mangualde aims to support work in a school context, promoting the use of new ICT tools, encouraging project work, collaborative and interdisciplinary work new learning methodologies.
Fabio and Didi are in charge of designing activities to carry out with students and teachers. They accompany the teachers at all times while the activity lasts. Before implementing the activity in the classroom, they meet with the teachers to refine the activity and adapt it as best as possible. Once done, they also meet to give feedback.
The meetings to prepare the material for the activities begin 2 months before. The teachers of the subjects take part in these meetings. Some of these activities that take place outside the classroom are then continued inside the classroom.
Morning
After the meeting they showed us a little about the facilities they have. Various manipulative material can be observed as well as a lot of technology.
Afternoon
After lunch they accompanied us to do one of these activities.
It was an activity where the students had the opportunity to explore the gardens of the "Palácio dos Condes de Anadia". The activity mixed science and maths and they had to do it by scanning QR codes and getting the solutions correctly on a form, to do this we used the Actionbound app.
2nd Day. 13th October 2022
Morning
On our last day in Mangualde in the morning we could observe another activity. This case with younger students. They were studying nutrition and had to go to the school canteen to see if the menu was correct or not.
Afternoon
In the afternoon we were accompanied by Isabel and Manuel. They gave us an explanation about EDUFOR. A web page that ensures the training of teachers using innovative methodologies.
They also told us about the PIC project (Projeto Investir na Capacidade) intended for students with high abilities.
After the talk they taught us all about very technological manipulative material. A robot that interacted, 3D glasses, interactive panels among others.
