Between the ages of 10 and 14, students can choose whether to take a vocational training course or take a secondary school. In the general high school, students can choose between humanities and art, science and mathematics, or home economics and technology. At the beginning of each year, students are allowed to change their chosen 'strand', so they can switch, for example, from an arts major to a science major. In the ninth year of schooling (from 14 to 18 years old), students choose between a vocational program and a general secondary education programme. Most schools offer the different majors so unless you choose to go to a vocational school, there is no need to change schools for the major.
