It is so wonderful to be back with all of our students, staff, and the whole Brookside community. I hope everyone had a wonderful, fun, safe summer and wore lots of sunscreen!
As we transition back into our new school year, I would like to remind parents and guardians that medication orders are only valid for one academic year, and any plans received last year, including for asthma medication or epinephrine, are no longer active. You may download blank copies of commonly used medical forms here and I am always happy to answer questions by email or telephone.
To help keep all of our students safe, we encourage parents and guardians to avoid sending peanut and tree nut containing products with their children for in-class snacks whenever possible, particularly if you received notification that your child is in a class with a student who has a life-threatening nut allergy. It is much more difficult to prevent accidental cross transfer between students and their surroundings when these products are consumed in the classroom as opposed to the lunch room.
As an additional reminder, any foods sent in for class events involving food must be peanut and tree-nut free, and come in the original packaging with the ingredients list attached. We ask that this includes labels with a "may contain trace of" warning. Foods that contain nut products, that are missing an ingredient label, or which are homemade may not be served to our students. Please also be reminded that all birthday celebrations in the WWRSD district are food-free and snacks/candy may not be sent home with students in goodie bags, including for holidays. These precautions are for the safety of our students both during and after school hours and we thank you very sincerely for your help in making Brookside a safe environment for all of our kids!
