Thank you so much to everyone who joined us on April 8th to experience the eclipse together. While it may have been cloudier than we hoped, it was still so special to get to gather for this incredible event. Thank you also and again to our PTO for the generous donation of glasses for our students and staff, and the Mrs. Eliason and the Westwood Public Library for their help in making sure we had spare glasses for visitors. Spring is here and so are seasonal allergies! There has been a marked increase in students reporting to the health office with allergy symptoms. While to some extent we just need to weather this seasonal change together, there are a few things you can do to help your child stay comfortable during school hours this spring.
Know the triggers - pollen counts can be forecasted just like the weather. There are a number of helpful sources to help you made an educated guess regarding how severe your child's seasonal allergies may be on a given day. I like AccuWeather's allergen forecaster because you can check pollen, ragween, mold, and grass as the season evolves.
Consider antihistamines - if your child struggles with seasonal allergies, consider asking their pediatrician or primary care provider if a preventative antihistamine like claritin or zyrtec may help.
Practice good hygiene - encourage your child to wash their hands and face after coming in from outside; if they are especially prone to seasonal allergies or it's a very high pollen day, changing clothes may help as well.

As we move into spring sport season, please be reminded that district policy requires a doctor's note for any child who needs to wear a splint, sling, brace, or cast in school. This note should specify the length of time the support is needed, activity restrictions, and any accommodations that may be necessary while in school.
Please note that per district policy, students who have been medically excused from PE due to illness or injury must also remain indoors for recess unless specified otherwise by a health care provider.
