Our first Handwashing Hero challenge was a big success - thank you so much to everyone who participated, both here at school, and at home as part of our heroes' training teams. We are all so proud of everyone who participated, and an extra big congratulations to the Kindergarten, which had the highest turn in percentage of any grade. We celebrated with a super fun dance party together. Awesome job, Brookside! Keep those hands clean!
Yearly screenings are ongoing by grade level. If there are any findings on your child's screening that meet criteria for further referral, you will receive prompt notification regarding the specific results. Please follow up with a medical provider and have them note their findings on the referral form before returning to the health office.
Please note that pursuant to N.J.S.A. 18A:40-4.3 , all New Jersey students between the ages of 10 and 18 are to be screened for scoliosis biannually. In WWRSD, these screenings begin in the 4th grade and are conducted with parental consent only. A sheet with information regarding screening procedure and planned dates will be sent home to all 4th grade students soon. Feel free to contact the health office with any questions or concerns.

It is so good to be done with the cold and moving in to spring. Our students seem VERY excited to be back outside for recess more regularly. However, damp weather means mud and puddles. While I am always happy to provide spare clothes in the health office if I have them, at this time my spare clothing supply is mostly XS and S sizes, and I have very little for older students who might need a change. Please consider putting a spare pair of pants in your child's backpack in the event of any spills or messes, especially if they are older, taller, or it is difficult for someone to bring a change of clothes for them during school hours.
Mr. Carlos Rocha from the New Jersey Children's Oral Health program visited us to present to our kindergarten class on the importance of dental hygiene and good oral health. We learned to floss and got some cool new toothbrushes, too. Thank you, Mr. Rocha!
