Has anyone heard if the flu is going around lately? 🥴
Joking aside, this winter has given us one of the worst flu seasons in 15 years, with community levels extremely high, and children aged 5-11 with the highest rate of illness. We're unfortunately seeing this reflected in our student population, with lots of sick kids and absences. The good news is...this too shall pass! Flu season annually tends to peak from December to February, so we are hopefully almost through the worst of it. In the meantime, while community levels remain very high, you can help protect your children and family by reminding them to...
wash their hands often and with soap and water. While better than nothing, hand sanitizer is not effective against all viruses (including norovirus) and is less effective when hands are already dirty.Â
cover their mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing.
get lots of rest and drink lots of water to help give their body the best chance of fighting off any germs.
tell an adult when they aren't feeling well.
Hang in there and rest up, Brookside! Warmer weather is on the way!
A fun hand song to help our Brookside crew remember the steps of a thorough hand wash!
Pollen is coming, are you ready? If you know your child is prone to seasonal allergies and there is anything we can have ready to help keep them comfortable and having fun this spring at Brookside, please reach out to chat. I am more than happy to help your kids out with anti-histamines, eyedrops, nasal spray, or inhalers, but please be reminded that any medication to be administered at school, including other the counter medications that do not require a prescription to purchase, do require signed authorization from a parent and healthcare provider before I may administer them. Â
You can download a blank copy of our district Medication Authorization During School Hours form to print and discuss with your child's healthcare provider if you feel there are any medications they may benefit from during allergy season (or, of course, any other time of year!) Please feel free to contact me with any questions, I'm always happy to discuss options with you.
