Stay Sun Smart: Apply sunscreen (SPF 30+) every 2 hours, and after swimming or sweating. Don’t forget ears, noses, and tops of feet!
Hydrate Often: Encourage water breaks throughout the day—especially during outdoor play or sports.
Wear Protective Gear: Helmets for biking/scootering, life jackets near open water, and properly fitted shoes for safe play.
Avoid Peak Heat: Plan outdoor activities early in the morning or later in the afternoon to avoid overheating.
Keep Bugs at Bay: Use insect repellent with child-safe ingredients and check for ticks after outdoor play, especially in grassy or wooded areas.
Practice Pool Safety: Always supervise children near water and teach swimming and water safety skills.
Stay Visible: Bright or reflective clothing helps drivers see children walking or biking near roads.
Protect Little Eyes: Sunglasses with UV protection shield eyes from harmful rays.
Know Emergency Info: Teach your child how to call 911 and ensure they know their full name, address, and a parent/guardian phone number.
Check the Back Seat: Never leave children unattended in vehicles—temperatures rise quickly, even with windows cracked.

Emergency Care Plans and medication orders for school are good for one academic year only and must be renewed every school year. Blank copies of all forms are available for download on the Medical Records & Forms page, and I am more than happy to answer questions or provide blank copies via email. It has been a privilege to be your school nurse for another wonderful year. Have a fantastic summer, Brookside - drink water, wear sunscreen, and see you in September! 😉
