OTR Friday Friends
By Aashi
"Friday Friends" is all about meeting new people and having fun. In "Friday Friends" you get a random teacher chosen to go to for Friday Friends. Most of the teachers give it a rating of 10 out of 10 and I agree! It is so much fun. Some of the 5th and 4th graders take 1st and 2nd graders to their classroom. Friday Friends is all about having fun and taking care of other students! My favorite thing is who I get to be with on Friday Friends!
Full Band Begins
By: Sharvi
Full Band Begins
Everyone's excited. Full band is finally starting! The Full band is when all the band members come together and play their instruments. This is a great time to make some improvements before the concert.
You might be wondering, “What do the band members do in full band?” Well, usually, each individual instrument gets its own lesson of thirty minutes. In these lessons, band members learn to play the songs for the concert. All the band members bring what they learned from their lessons to full band to sound their best.
You might also be wondering, “When exactly is full bend?” Full band is every Wednesday during recess, or 12:00. The band members have to get to the gymnasium (gym) by 11:55. The band members have five minutes to set up and then, at 12:00 the band starts playing.
Full band is a great time to make adjustments for the concert and it is truly wonderful to hear all the flute, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, baritone, clarinet, bass clarinet, bell, and precaution players play all at once!
Chess Club Begins
By: Abhiram
Chess is a very fun game to play. In our school, there are many chess players who want to compete against each other. That is why one of our teachers Mrs. Hila, made a chess club in our school to give everyone an opportunity to play against each other or to learn from each other. Chess club is located in Mrs. Islosa ‘s room and is after school from 3:30 to 4:00. It happens most Wednesdays because some Wednesdays have to be canceled because Mrs. Hila has a meeting to attend. Chess club is a time to relax and play a peaceful game of chess. Even though it is a chess club, Mrs. Hila lets us play a game of checkers or even just sit and relax and get some social time. During the club, we each get a chess board and start playing. Or if we don't want to wait to get a chessboard, we are allowed to get our own chessboards. The club is for 4th and 5th graders. And lastly, you can bring in snacks to eat while playing. In conclusion, the Chess club is a very fun and exciting club to join.
New Year Resolution
By: Laaibah
Hello Golden Eagles! Do you have a New Year’s Resolution? I do! Mine is to work hard and to try something new. Also to finish the “Harry Potter” series. Do you want to know anybody else’s resolutions? Well, you’re in luck because today I’m going to tell you all of the teacher’s New Year’s Resolutions! Let’s get started!
I’m going to start with fifth grade so buckle up while we take a trip to the third floor! I’m going to start these wonderful resolutions with Miss Gonzalez. Her resolution is to be a good mom. She told me that she is pregnant and she wants to be a good mother to her baby. Next up is Miss Kozub! She said, “My New Year’s Resolution is to eat healthily”. Drumroll please for Miss Santamaria! Her resolution is to read more books. Our last fifth-grade teacher is Miss Tweedle. She said her resolution is to save more money.
Now onto our fourth-grade teachers! Miss Stephan said that her resolution is to create balance in her life. Miss Passarelli's resolution is to try and get rid of unnecessary things and make more space. Miss Mosca’s resolution is to try and find more time to do fun things.
Let’s go down the hall to the third graders! We’ll start off with Miss Adase. Her resolution is to go outside and read more books. Miss Sepa’s resolution is to be more organized, and healthy, and exercise more. Miss Ginfrida’s New Year’s Resolution is to try a new recipe every month. Miss Batista, my third-grade teacher, is next. Her resolution is to read at least three books this year.
Time for second grade! Our last two classes on the top floor are Miss Butz’s and Miss Pelosi’s. We’ll begin with Miss Butz. Her resolution is to spend more time with her parents. I think that's very nice. The last teacher on the second floor is Ms. Pelosi! Her resolution is to read more books and drink more water. That is the last of the third floor. Hang on while we zoom back down to the second floor. So, we’re on the second floor. Let’s continue with the second-grade teachers! Ms. Quagliano’s resolution is to eat healthy, exercise, and go to the gym. Ms. Palmer’s is to eat fewer carbs and make more time for herself. That was the last of the second grade.
Going on to first grade! First, we have Ms. Hupka. Her resolution is to exercise every day. Ms. Moast’s is to stress less. Ms. Engelke’s is to eat healthier and exercise more. Ms. Zelazny’s resolution is to spend more time playing outside with her kids.
Favorite Winter Treat
By: Dhriti
Winter treats are fun to eat all the time.
Do you have a favorite winter treat? Well I know I do, but let’s see the treats that other people like. Here are the winter treat options. The options are ice cream, cookies, and candy canes. I got votes from the whole 5th grade, one 4th grade, and one 2nd. The number of students combined from all the classes is 87 students. 41 of the students chose ice cream. 32 of the students chose cookies. 14 of the students chose candy canes.
At first, cookies were winning but then, one class had a lot of votes and that's how ice cream won. Candy canes had the least amount of votes, but I thought candy canes were going to win because the poll was winter themed. I got votes from the teachers and one said ice cream. One said cookies, another teacher also said cookies and another one said candy canes.
Blue= Ice cream
Orange= cookies
Green= candy canes
Did you stay up to watch the Ball Drop
By: Hiya
The ball drop is amazing. It is the night right before Jan. 1st. There is a big ball in New York and when it is midnight the ball drops representing the new year.
Did you stay up to watch the ball drop? Well, I did, but today I am asking the whole 5th grade, one 4th grade, and one 2nd grade of Oak Tree Road School. When I started to ask the 5th graders, it looked like most of the 5th graders started picking yes, until I got to the last two classes a lot of them started to pick no. While I was there, I also asked the teachers. Three of them said yes and one said no. So my final result is 23 students said yes, including teachers and 24 students including teachers said no.
Next, I asked one 4th grader and 14 students watched the ball drop including the teacher, and 9 students did not watch the ball drop. Lastly, I asked one 2nd-grader and 10 students including the teacher watched the ball drop. 8 students did not watch the ball drop. Now there is only one person left to ask. That’s you! Did you watch the ball drop?

Season Poem/Creative Writing
Once upon a time, there was a young Ice Queen named Rayla. Her parents and relatives had been crushed to death by a deadly avalanche. She was the only ruler left of the Dragon Dynasty, who ruled over the polar regions of the globe for centuries. By tradition, each ruler had to learn elemental healing magic.
Rayla went out of the castle and saw a girl about her age who just happened to be the daughter of the two most important Ice Mages in the kingdom. Her name was Claudia. But she had a curse- if she used too much magic, she would die.
The next day, Rayla went to Claudia’s house to meet her, and she discovered that terrorists had taken Claudia’s parents. There was a note on the wall that said “Your parents have been taken for an experiment. If you bring the royal guard they will die.” Claudia had broken out in hysterical sobs when she saw the note.
With permission from the royal guard, the girls set out through the kingdom to find Claudia’s parents and set them free. Claudia had to do a lot of magic to help them along their journey. She nearly died because of her curse, but Rayla revived her with her elemental healing magic.
After many days of searching, the girls found Claudia’s parents, stormed the facility, and rescued Claudia’s parents from the terrorists. They all returned to the kingdom and lived happily ever after.

Frosty’s Best Day
On Christmas day in the middle of winter, there was a snowman called Frosty. So after an hour of being built, he saw a portal. He tried to get to it but could not reach it in time and the portal closed. Frosty was depressed for days and days, but one day he saw the portal again and this time it was closer. So Frosty jumped and jumped to the portal. He did not even care that he was melting. He made it in before the portal closed.
He saw mountains and mountains of snow. He also saw houses of snow. Lastly, he saw it was still Christmas. To him this was magic. He went to the nearest house and then Frosty asked, “Can I stay over for the night?” The snowman who owned the house said yes and then Frosty went inside.
He saw a snow chair, a snow bed, and lots more. He and the other snowman played Uno, Lodo, Nitrotype, and Cool Math Games. After playing games they watched TV. On the TV they watch Snow Town TV on Youtube and watch the news. After watching tv they ate dinner. They had so much food that I can’t say all of them. Then they went to sleep.
When they woke up Frosty left through the portal and back to his home.
The End
