It is the end of the school year and it is time for summer but before we leave school I have to tell you about the students of the month, that’s right you read it, the Students of the month. You might be asking yourself “Well Alisha why are there so many students of the month?” That’s because we have our first graduating class of Oak Tree Road School! I am proud to say I am one of them, now I think that the Class of 2019 is special because we have conquered many challenges and we have also made many friendships. Our 5th grade teachers Mrs. Tanis, Mrs. Kozub, and Ms. Tweedle have also helped us a lot this year and we will remember them in Middle School and at other times remembering how much they taught us to help us be successful in life and in our studies.

This time our teacher has been teaching for a long time. It is Mrs. Barbato. She has been teaching for 23 years. Though, her dream job was to be a Principal. Well, she is the sub for when Mrs. Osborne is absent. She has been a sub for 15 years. Her dream vacation is to travel with her family. On the other side, she wants to sleep too. A kid called her devoted and described her. Her favorite color is purple. She likes the chocolate Twix. Mrs.Barbato is a wonderful teacher and all the things above here describe her greatly.

During World War II (1939-1945), the Battle of Normandy, which lasted from June 1944 to August 1944, resulted in the Allied liberty of Western Europe from Nazi Germany’s control. During World War II (1939-1945) the Battle of Normandy, which lasted from June 1944 to August 1944, resulted in the Allied liberation of Western Europe from Nazi Germany’s control. The Normandy landings have been called the beginning of the end of war in Europe.A summary of this is that D-Day was a landing of operations. In January 1944, General Dwight Eisenhower (1890-1969) was appointed commander of Operation Overlord. In the months and weeks before D-Day, the Allies carried out a massive deception operation intended to make the Germans think the main invasion target was Pas-de-Calais (the narrowest point between Britain and France) rather than Normandy.

Flag Day was founded by a teacher in Wisconsin. Who knew? Well officially, it wasn’t until 1916 when President Woodrow Wilson signed legislation for a national observation. What we celebrate every June 14th is the anniversary of the adoption of the American Flag by the Second Continental Congress way back in 1777. The resolution read, “That the flag of the thirteen United States be thirteen stripes, alternate red and white: that the union be thirteen stars, white on a blue field, representing a new constellation.”
Our current flag with 50 stars, adopted in 1960 after the statehood of Hawaii and Alaska, is the longest-serving flag of the United States. We salute this Star-Spangled Banner every school day and at the beginning of many public events. So, what can we do that’s special on Flag Day?
* Fly the flag proudly at your home.
* Research what our flag symbolizes.
* Write a poem.
* Design your vision of our nation’s symbol.
* Bake a flag cake with blueberries and strawberries.
* Wear red, white, and blue.
* Attend a parade or flag raising ceremony
Think about it…..What does the flag mean to YOU?

Hey, do you know what is on June 16th? Well, it is Father’s day. Father’s Day is a day where you do good things for your dad such as, take him outside to a restaurant. Maybe you can spend some quality time with him. A lot of people give their father a gift on Father’s Day. Father’s Day started in 1910 in the state of Washington. It all started when a girl started honoring her dad. She thought if there is a Mother’s day why can’t there be a Father’s day? So she decided she designated a day for her dad. This weekend maybe do something special for your dad!

Do you know what D.A.R.E. is? Let me tell you! D.A.R.E. stands for (Drug, Abuse, Resistance, and Education)! D.A.R.E. is about to not smoke, drink, and many harmful things or situations related to this. Our wonderful Dare officers teach us useful ways to resist drugs, use confident communication, and ways to stop bullying. The Dare Graduation is a final end to the Dare program. It is a chance to be confident in middle school with all the knowledge that the dare officers gave us.
Thank you, Dare Officers!!!

Friday June 7 was a very special day. On Friday it was the National Donuts Day. The National Donuts Day started in 1938 when a group of people served the soldiers donuts in World War I. National Donuts Day was made to honor the people who gave the soldiers the donuts. About 10 billion donuts are sold in the United States on National Donuts Day. Last year Americans spent 230 million dollars on donuts. Do you want to hear a fun fact? People are starting to name their babies donuts. I hope you have a fun time listening to my facts!

National Let It Go Day is on June 23rd. Honestly speaking, at first I thought that this day was a tribute to the movie Frozen because of its song Let It Go! Were you also thinking the same thing. If so, then I have the explanation for you! Let It Go Day is all about letting go of things that bother you. For example the past, fights you may have with friends, grudges, and many other things. Basically you don’t want to hold onto these things. You don’t want to “ Let the storm rage on,” ( from the lyrics of Let It Go). Like Elsa said in Let It Go “ couldn’t keep it in,” you shouldn’t. You should let go. Have fun and be stress free. Hey, but don’t forget you still gotta study to get good grades.

And the raptors have done it. They beat the undefeated Warriors in game 6. Warriors were in the playoffs for about the past 5 years. Raptors won only 1 championships which was this. Kawhi Lenord got finals mvp and his first championship win. The Warriors had a lot of injuries but if they didn't I think they would have won. Now the warriors are not undefeatable thanks to the raptors. I might have to be a bandwagon Warriors fan! But we have to see next time because a lot of NBA teams are changing. Anthony Davis is traded to Lakers. Oh boy LeBron and Anthony that's a good Lakers roster. See you guys next time even though I'm going to 6th grade : (

Have you guys heard about the talent show? The talent show is a great place where you can show your talent. People sing, dance, and sometimes even play instruments. This year the talent show money goes to the Brown family. It goes to them because last winter, their sons got hit by a car and they got injured. The money helps them pay the bills. The talent show is pretty fun to watch. The tickets cost $5 if you pay to your teacher. If you pay at the doors then it is $7.The talent show was awesome is what I’ve heard from everyone that went to the talent show. The hand bells also perform at the talent show. One person also told jokes and it was really funny. The people who can participate in the talent show are the 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders. These grades get to audition. Then if they qualify then they get to perform at the talent show and trust me, not a lot of people get cut off. The talent show is really fun. It is optional. You can do the talent show with as many people as you like. You can also do it by yourself. Don’t be afraid to just go out there and show your talent. A lot of people are sometimes afraid or nervous so they don’t even audition. If you want to do the talent show, do it! Don't be afraid to do it just because someone is there! Trust me it’s fun!

Do you know what patriotism is ? Well if don’t know then let me teach you what it is. Come on let’s go. Patriotism is the love and support for our school, country, and community. I guess that all of you have patriotism for your community, and country.
There are many ways to show your love for the country by thanking the people who fought in the military because they fought for your freedom and well being. Here’s a weird one, if you vote you show patriotism for your country. One way to show patriotism for Oak tree road school 29 by wearing green and gold colors on every 29th of the month. The last way to show patriotism for your school is by attending school events.
Let’s go on to how to show patriotism to our community.
One way to show patriotism for your community is to volunteer to do stuff for the benefit of the community. Such as a clean up group for your community. The last way to show patriotism for your community is to support local businesses and restaurants. I hope you all have a good summer break. Also I can’t wait to see who has the most patriotism in the school!

Welcome, fellow reader. I have some good news and some bad news. The bad news is that school is almost over, so the Golden Eagle’s Post will not make any more issues during the summer. The good news is, we’re doing it again next year! No matter if you’re a 4th grader, 2nd grader, or even a college student, this article is for you. I’m going to give you a behind-the-scenes tour around the Newspaper headquarters, right here at Oak Tree Road School #29. I’m also going to tell you what we do.
The fifth grade manages the newspaper. It doesn’t matter which class you’ll be in, you’ll still have a chance to take part in the newspaper. However, if you don’t want to, that is fine. Being in a newspaper can teach you how to be organized, how to cooperate with others, and many more lessons you can apply to your life. It’s basically just like having a job; you need to turn things in on time and you need to work as a team. If you do not turn in your things on time, you might get kicked out. So, timing is key. If you want to be part of the newspaper, here’s what it takes:
-Cooperation
-Responsibility
-Creativity
-Timing
-Organization
-An article you wrote about one of the topics Mrs. Tanis gives you.
-And LOTS of hard work
There are different types of jobs for the newspaper:
-Editor
-Writer
-Joke of the month/Riddle of the month
-Illustrator
-Game Page
-Coloring Page (that’s my job!)
-Interviewer
-Photographer
-Comic
So, how do we put the newspaper together if we all are in separate classes? That’s a great question. We have a google classroom. That’s where we share our thoughts about the newspaper. It’s also used for questions. Mrs. Tanis, our current Newspaper president, gives us a due date for all of our articles, photos, etc. When we are done, we will send our material to Mrs. Tanis, who takes all of that and puts it all together. The editors check the material for any mistakes. Then, it’s ready to be submitted!
Cool Facts:
-Our first issue was the October issue. The eagle representing that issue is the eagle dressed up as a Jack-O-Lantern.
-Our newspaper is student-made, with the assistance of teachers.
-You can see the links to our newspaper on Google!!
-We have a website!!
-Diva was the first Student of the Month.
-Ms. Palmer was the first Teacher of the Month.
-The youngest kid to work in this newspaper is Harshvardhan Parekh, a knowledgeable and talented 1st grader. He is also the sibling of Jhanvi Parekh, a fifth grader, who works for the Newspaper. .
Now, I’m going to be telling you about how it all started. So it all began one day when I was just daydreaming, thinking about what this school needs. It just popped into my head. A newspaper! It would bring this school together. I thought it would be a good way for fellow students to work together to create it and it would also update us about the new events that are not only happening at our school, but in the world too! I wanted a newspaper that was fun to read and at the same time very educational. So I first talked to Mrs. Tanis (P.S. April’s Teacher of the Month and the (President of the Newspaper), and she was very acquiescent. Then I asked Mrs. Osborne (our awesome principal), who was also very pleased at the idea. Later, we went into giving out jobs. In order to get a job, the 5th grade students had to write an article about one of the many topics Mrs. Tanis gave out. We would read it and then choose some people to do the issue. In our paper, you won’t always get a job. We have to take turns. If you are vice president of the newspaper, you have to be in every issue. Being in this newspaper has taught me many things like good character.
I would like to end this article with a special thanks to all of the people below:
Mrs. Tanis- President of the newspaper, and an awesome 5th grade teacher.
Mrs. Osborne-Amazing Principal
All of the Newspaper helpers!!!
