WHO IS THE TEACHER OF THE MONTH?
Mrs. Tanis! Along with her humor, she interacts with her students like they are her own children. Though this is her 9th year teaching, she hasn’t lost her excitement, nor her adventurous way of doing things! Mrs. Tanis’s effort is indescribable. If we talk about her teaching, let’s go into some STEM and fun attitude of teaching all things! Mrs. Tanis is very fond of letting her kids enjoy themselves at school while learning something new each day. In her 5th grade class, she loves to play the game, minute-to-win-it! Two of her favorite projects she’s done in her career is running a community service club at CHS (Colonia High School) called The CHS Service to Others Club, and taking responsibility of our very own school’s newspaper, The Golden Eagles Post.
What inspired her to be a teacher? As per her honesty, Mrs. Tanis felt that as a young child, she couldn’t remember having a great teacher. Mrs. Tanis disliked her teachers as much as she remembers, there really was only one teacher who ever stood out in her mind, Mrs. Gerard, her 5th grade teacher. She wanted to be that teacher who was not like the ones she had, but be a teacher who would be fun, liked, caring, compassionate and remembered by her students! Now, let’s get into some of her hobbies and fears. Mrs. Tanis says her greatest fear is drowning and she’d rather die by being struck by lighting! She also believes that her greatest weakness are her students because she would do anything for them. Mrs. Tanis is probably the most traveled teacher at “Oak Tree Road School." This outstanding teacher has traveled to more than 16 countries around the globe and wishes to also visit her dream location, Maldives! She lives by her favorite quote “Whatever you are, be a good one - Abraham Lincoln”. I’m sure she must be grateful to be in the newspaper as the “Teacher of the Month”! So what’s next for her? Who knows! Will she take a large vacation? OR will she continue to touch the lives of her students daily? Stay tuned and don’t forget to read next month’s news! Let’s have a great month together!

Hey guys! Do you know who the support teacher of the month is, this month of April? Well, it’s our beloved ESL teacher, Mrs. Isola. She feels honored at being the support teacher of the month this month. She started teaching when she was 22 years old. Did you know that she has been teaching for 12 years now? She says, “I would be a cupcake decorator if I wasn’t an ESL teacher.” Mrs. Isola enjoys studying language, and she wanted to help students learn language and achieve their goals, which is what made her become an ESL teacher. Her favorite thing about teaching is watching the growth of the students, from beginning to end. Well, I learned a lot of new things about Mrs. Isola after this interview, which I did not know before. I hope you also learned something new. I can’t wait to see who the Teacher of the Month is next month! Adios for now!

I wonder who the student of the month is this month? The student of the month is Nikhil Allam. He is in 4th-grade Mrs.Mosca’s class. His favorite thing about his teacher(Mrs.Mosca) is that they do stem. Stem is really fun. His favorite subject in school is math. Hmmm, what can his favorite color be? Well, his favorite color is blue.
He has been in Kennedy Park and Oaktree road school since the end of 2nd-grade. His birthday is on July 18 and he is 9 years old(in the present). He shows citizenship by following the rules, do whatever he is asked to do by the teacher, and help other people to be a better person. He wants to be a pilot when he grows up. Did I mention that Nikhil has a sibling in this school? He has a brother named Aveen in Ms. Pelosi’s class. Do any of you want to be the student of the month? I’m pretty sure most of you do. Good luck with being the student of the month!

April Fool’s Day or All Fool’s Day is a day where we all put pranks on each other and have fun doing it. Well the history is complicated but I will tell you the origins I found.
It all began during Ancient Rome during their festival Hilaria which sounds like hilarious in our language. They dressed up in different disguises to fool one another. Another origin was tied to the vernal equinox where Mother Nature fooled people by changing the weather patterns. The vernal equinox part is probably isn’t true but we don’t know for sure. It also spread through Britain where people put kick me signs and on the back of people or fake pinning tails on them. These days April Fool’s Day has changed. It always occurs on April First and it is annual. People put their own kind of jokes on their friends and family. Well that is all for April Fool’s.

Autism Awareness Month
Have you ever heard of Autism Awareness Month? Anyway, this is celebrated every year in April. It is a way to educate people about autism and knowing the significance of it. By educating people about autism, they can learn how to help and embrace those who are experiencing it.
Autism is a developmental disorder that affects a person with it to struggle in communication, ability in learning, appearance, or things that are taken by the five senses. People with autism may be sensitive to things such as seeing, hearing, feeling, smelling, and tasting. For example, they might not like the sound of someone mowing their lawn, or the flickering lights of a car. Or maybe the wool of the sweater that they are wearing. Some other examples of autism can be a disability of reading backwards. That is called dyslexia. People with autism behave and act differently when having different emotions, just the same as you and me. When a person with autism can not express their emotions, they become anxious and frustrated while causing a tantrum. People who are born with autism can look different than others.
We should always accept and understand people with autism. Always embrace them. Help them out. Don’t be rude and ignore this situation. It is important to know about autism and take it to mind. After reading this article, please pass this on to others to inform them on autism.

Pets are something a lot of people want. There is holiday called National Pets Day . It is day to celebrate how much we love our pets. You have to call it National Pet Day. Search it up if you don’t believe me. Search up National Pets Day, not the question. Anyway, how was this unpopular holiday made? It all started in 2006, when the pet and family lifestyle expert and welfare advocate Colleen Paige thought of celebrating the joy of us and our pet obsession. It falls every April 11th. Now don’t get confused by National Pet Day, National Love Your Pet Day and National Dog Day. National Love Your Pet falls on Feb 20th. National Dog Day falls on August 26th. They are all different.

Do you know what Easter is? Easter, also called Pascha or Resurrection Sunday, is a festival and holiday celebrating the resurrection of Jesus from the dead, described in the New Testament as having occurred on the third day of his burial after his crucifixion by the Romans at Calvary c. 30 AD. People like to celebrate it by doing egg hunts and visiting Church. This year it will be celebrated on Sunday, April 21, 2019. Easter is usually celebrated on the first Sunday after the full moon following the Vernal or Spring Equinox on March 21st. This can be any Sunday between March 22nd and April 25th. It is the most sacred of all the Christian holidays or celebrations. Let me tell you some fun facts!
Around 90 million chocolate Easter bunnies are made for the holiday each year.
The largest Easter egg ever made was over 25 feet high!
Orthodox Christians in some countries use a different calendar and celebrate Easter a few weeks later than the United States.
Easter is also known as Pasch or Pascha
Some people believe the word Easter comes from the pagan holiday honoring Eostre the pagan goddess of Spring which symbolized rebirth.
Others believe the word Easter comes from the German word "eostarun" meaning dawn and white.
I hope you liked learning about Easter!🐇

What is Take Your Son or Daughter to Work Day? This is unofficial holiday on which parents take their children to work with them. Also it is an opportunity for kids to get into the glimpse of the working world. Take Your Son/Daughter to Work Day is on the fourth Thursday in April. The holiday was founded in 1993 by the Ms. Foundation for Women and Gloria Steinem, who made it originally “ Take Your Daughter to Work Day”. Susan Healthfield said “ Take Your Daughter to Work Day was very old-fashioned.” She wanted to change the name and called it instead “ Take your Child to Work Day.” Take Your Daughter/Son to Work Day can help have children sometimes experience some good memories, and who knows, maybe that could influence them to may wanting to work at their mom or dad’s place when they are older. This holiday from now is 27 years old. Every year, more than 37 million Americans at over 3.5 million participate in this program. Wow, that’s a huge number! I also want to give you a tip, if you are at a workplace, work health and safety laws are needed to be followed when you bring a child to a workplace. Some schools also give an excused absence for Take Your Daughter/Son to Work Day. These are all some interesting facts that I have got to know today about Take Your Son/ Daughter to Work Day. I hope you also enjoyed reading all these facts about this special day!

People paint and decorate eggs on Easter, because this Christian holiday celebrates spring and fertility, and eggs are the symbol of fertility and life.
Easter is also the celebration of the rebirth of Jesus Christ.
Did you know that Americans spend about 1.5 million dollars on Easter candy? Well I certainly didn’t.
The first story of a rabbit (later named the “Easter Bunny”) hiding eggs in a garden was published in 1680.
70% of Easter candy purchased each year is chocolate. Yum!
The art of painting eggs originated from Ukraine.
The tallest Easter egg chocolate was made in Italy in 2011.
Peep peep… did you know Americans buy more than 700 million marshmallow Peeps during Easter? This makes Peeps the most popular non-chocolate Easter candy.
The idea of the Easter bunny giving candies and eggs is said to have originated in Germany during the middle ages.
An estimated $14.7 billion is spent in total for Easter in the US.

Riddle of the Month!
1. Johnny's dad had told Johnny that if he could get an A+ on his final exam, he could get any ice cream flavor he wanted plus a pizza. When the day for the final exam came, the professor said, "There are three questions on this exam. You will have one hour to answer them all and no more. Anyone caught taking any longer or cheating will get an automatic F." When Johnny received the paper, he read the first question. As he read it, he realized the exam was no piece of cake so he worked as hard as he could. When he finally finished question one, he checked the clock. There was only 5 minutes left! At this rate, he wouldn't be able to finish in time. As Johnny looked around, he saw that there were hundreds of students and figured that he could get away with a few extra minutes, so he worked away past the hour mark. As Johnny went to turn in his paper, the professor stopped him. "Young man," the professor said sternly. "I saw you keep working long after the 1-hour mark. You were caught cheating and will get an F." Thinking quickly, Johnny replied, "Do you know who I am?" The professor stoically responded, "I neither know or care who you are. You need to learn respect and discipline." "Good." said Johnny and he ran away. When the day for the exam scores to be announced came, Johnny received an A+. How?
Answer: When the professor confirmed Johnny's anonymity (the professor didn't know who he was), Johnny quickly slipped his exam paper into the pile of exams and ran off, so the professor wouldn't know which exam paper deserved an F. Congratulations on sticking through the whole riddle.
2. Why was the picture sent to jail?
Answer: Because it was framed.

Spring at Last
Spring is awesome, it’s a blast!
Spring’s when the flowers bloom at last!
Filled with color and full of cheer
I can never wait for this time of year
Flowers grow on the bushes and trees
So many roses, sunflowers and daisies
Having fun and playing a lot
Enjoying the weather while it’s neither cold nor hot
Going out and staying till dark
Watching fireflies as their lights spark
Staying out late and gazing at stars
Staring at planets like Venus and Mars
Making wishes on shooting stars
The mild soft breeze floating in the air
The drizzling raindrops that fall everywhere
The smiles on everyone’s faces as they go somewhere
There’s Easter, Mother’s Day
And don’t forget Spring Break
There’s only so much studying one kid can take!
Spring is amazing and full of fun
You spend your days in the shining sun
Before you know it summer will be on it’s way
And soon after that SUMMER BREAK!
No more studying for TWO MONTHS STRAIGHT!

Writer & Photo: Haala Masroor
On the morning of April 19,1775, 700 British troops marched at about 5:00 AM to capture Patriot leaders and to capture a Patriot arsenal. They marched into Lexington, just to find 77 minutemen, waiting for them at the town’s green. The Patriots were told to disperse by the british major and after a moment, they started to wander and disperse. All of a sudden, a shot rang out. No one knows who that shot belonged. In the end, there were eight Patriots dead or dying with 10 others wounded. Only one British soldier was wounded, but the American Revolution had begun.

"Boom banana!" Robin William yells. Well, most people don’t know a secret. There is a holiday called ……….National Bananas Day. Well unlike Halloween and Easter, this is a unpopular holiday. It is also a unofficial holiday that is unpopular. People all over the U.S celebrate, but not that much. Bananas are actually berries. Most people don’t that because it does not look like a berry. It is unique type of berry. The weird thing about bananas is that they are very popular because (they are the most popular fruit in the american diet) , but there holiday is very unpopular. They are grown in an unique type of herb too. The holiday comes on April 17th every year.
