CARING
I think our world would like some more care. Don't you? Well, care, in general, can be given to anyone. Even the environment. Caring has a lot to do with the golden rule. If you give care, you get care. Caring also has a lot to do with kindness. For instance, you find a package for your neighbor. You pick it up, and place in front of your neighbor's door. That's a random act of kindness. But would you really do that if you didn't care for how that person would feel? No! So now, I would like to introduce you to a few students from the OTR fifth grade, who will explain their acts of kindness/care, and how it felt. Welcome to the Care for All interview!
Iniya Raghupathi
Ms.Tanis' class
Act of Kindness/care: I said, "You are the BEST and I look up to you in a million ways!", to my mom. I did that to make her smile. Especially because she was having a rough day.
How I felt: I felt really good inside, that I was able to make someone's day.
Pratha Shah
Ms.Tweedle's class
Act of Kindness/care: I have helped a hurt bird that was on the road. My aunt was over from India and she knew a lot about animals. Turns out that the bird was injured on her wing. She wasn't able to fly. She was lying in the middle of the road so before any car could hurt her, we took her and brought her over to the sidewalk.
How I felt: I felt really great about it and I learned that kindness doesn't just have to be for humans. Even animals deserve to be respected.
Diya Parthiban
Ms. Santamaria's class
Act of Kindness/care: Once, I helped my brother pick an outfit to wear for the day, after he showered.
How I felt: It made me feel like I was a second mom, and also like I was being a better sister than normal. In general it made me feel happy.
from IMS, who was in OTR last year!!!
Act of Kindness/care: In fourth, there was a new girl (I don't want to mention the name) who came in the middle of the year. She was very different compared to the rest of us. No one wanted to play with her. So I'd decided that I would make friends with her and make her happy. And so I did.
How I felt- I had felt really happy, generous, and proud of myself.
And with that being said, let's conclude the Care for All interview!
REMEMBER TO ALWAYS SHOW CARE FOR ALL

Sport of the Month
By:Yashraj Shah
The sport of the month for this month is table tennis. Table tennis is not very popular in the United States but it is a very popular sport in China and other places. Table tennis is the 7th most popular sport in the world and it is even more popular than baseball! It has 900 million fans and people all over the world play the sport. Table tennis is a sport where 2 or 4 people can play at a time, depending on if you are playing doubles or singles. The goal is to hit the ball with something that is called a paddle. You are supposed to hit the ball and it should hit the other side of the table in your opponent’s court except when you serve. When you serve, the ball has to bounce on your side and the other side of the court. You lose the point when you are unable to do one of those things and you will lose a point when your opponent is unable to do so. Right at this moment, the world champion in table tennis is Fan Zhendong who is a Chinese player. That is all for the sport of the month. I hope you enjoyed it.

1 1/3 cups all purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon sugar
1/4 cup (1/2 stick) chilled unsalted butter, cut into 1/2-inch cubes
1/4 cup frozen solid vegetable shortening, cut into 1/2-inch cubes
3 tablespoons (or more) ice water
1/2 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
3 1/4 pounds Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, sliced 1/4 inch thick
2/3 cup sugar
2 tablespoons all purpose flour
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
1 cup all purpose flour
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 cup (packed) golden brown sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon salt
6 tablespoons chilled unsalted butter, cut into 1/2-inch cubes
1 Vanilla ice cream
CRUST
Mix flour, salt, and sugar in a large bowl. Add butter and shortening; rub in with fingertips until coarse meal forms. Mix 3 tablespoons of ice water and vinegar in a small bowl to blend. Drizzle over flour mixture; stir with fork until moist clumps form, adding more water by teaspoonfuls if dough is dry. Gather dough into ball; flatten into disk. Wrap in plastic; refrigerate 30 minutes.
Position rack in center of oven and preheat to 400°F. Roll out dough on lightly floured surface to 12-inch round. Transfer to a 9-inch-diameter glass pie dish. Trim overhang to 1/2 inch; turn edge under and crimp decoratively. Refrigerate while preparing filling and topping.
FILLING
Mix all ingredients in a large bowl to coat apples.
TOPPING
Blend the first 5 ingredients in the processor. Add chilled butter cubes; using on/off turns, cut in until mixture resembles wet sand.
Toss filling to redistribute juices; transfer to crust, mounding in center. Pack topping over and around apples. Bake pie on baking sheet until topping is golden, about 40 minutes (cover top with foil if browning too quickly). Reduce oven temperature to 350°F. Bake until apples in center are tender when pierced and filling is bubbling thickly at edges, about 45 minutes longer. Cool until warm, about 1 hour. Serve with ice cream.
End
When you are finished you can have your pie anytime you want you will see how the flover overlaps in your mouth making it difficult just to concentrate on one flavor. This is a good thing cause the combination makes the pie taste scrumptious.
Well for now you should go enjoy your pie.
Good Bye

Zodiac sign of the month - Libra
Hello Everyone! Do you know what zodiacs are? Well, they are particular signs that depend on when you were born. This month’s zodiac is …….. Libra! The Libra zodiac is meant for people of all ages born September 23, to October 23. I am a Libra and my birthday falls on September 24! Read along to find out more fun facts and information about the Libra zodiac!
Element -
The Libra zodiac is the element, air. Libra is one of the three zodiac air signs, the others being Gemini and Aquarius. In astrology, a broad description of those who are born under these signs are calm, rational, and detached when dealing with situations. The sign of Libra is symbolized by the scales and is associated with the Roman deity Iustitia.
Personality-
Libras are known for being charming, beautiful, and well-balanced. They thrive on making things orderly and aesthetically pleasing. They also crave balance, and they can be equally as self-indulgent as they are generous. Libras are also incredibly cooperative and fair-minded, and are a sign that believe firmly, in the power of social connection. Libras are some of the most interesting and clever people around, and they have a lot to offer. But, as you know, not all Libras are the same. These are just stereotypes.
Libra Constellation (history)-
The Libra constellation lies in the southern sky. It is one of the constellations, first catalogued by Ptolemy in the 2nd century. The constellation’s name means “the weighing scales” in Latin, Libra is usually depicted as the scales held by the Greek goddess of justice Dike (or Astraea) represented by the neighboring Virgo constellation. Libra is the only constellation that represents an object, not an animal or a character from mythology. The four brightest stars in the constellation form a quadrangle. Alpha and Beta Librae mark the scales’ balance beam, and Gamma and Sigma Librae represent the weighing pans. The constellation Libra is represented by this symbol, ♎️.

By Yashraj Shah
This month’s dino of the month is the micropachycephalosaurus. You may be thinking, what kind of dinosaur has a name that large?! The micropachycephalosaurus was a rather small dinosaur and was a herbivore. The name micropachycephalosaurus meant small thick-headed lizard and a single specimen of a skeleton had been found. The micropachycephalosaurus was about 3 feet long and five feet tall, some reached 6 feet. It lived about 83 to 71 million years ago in the cretaceous period. It lived in what is now known as China. Did you know that the micropachycephalosaurus had the longest name of any dinosaur? It is true with 23 letters and 9 syllables, it tops Carcharodontosaurus by 4 letters which is second place with the most letters. That is it for this month’s dino of the month, hope you enjoyed it!

April Fools
Who likes a good laugh? Well, I do and April Fools is a great time to play jokes on your friends and neighbors. April Fools' Day is not a national holiday, but it is celebrated in the United States and many other countries. It is sometimes known as All Fools' Day. April Fools is on April 1 and this year it was on a Thursday. One theory of how April Fools started suggests that the day comes from the change in the calendar in Europe from the Julian calendar to the Gregorian calendar. This moved the New Year from Spring to January 1st. When people forgot and still celebrated the New Year in April, other people made fun of them. I think this theory makes a lot of sense but there is another theory as well. It is that people liked to play jokes all the way back to Ancient Roman times, especially during the spring festivals. The celebration of April Fools started in the Middle Ages. It was generally celebrated on March 25th throughout much of Europe up until the 1800s. What an interesting history. This year with the Coronavirus April Fools will really help everyone’s spirit!

Hi guys! Today we are going to talk about the Jewish holiday, Passover. Passover is a major Jewish Holiday that was celebrated on April 8th this year. Every year the first date of Passover changes. Each year, this holiday lasts for 7 to 8 days.
Jewish people eat matzos, a flat, unleavened bread made of flour and water, during Passover. The main event of Passover is the seder, a festive meal in which the haggadah which is a special book is recited in a set order. This holiday celebrates the exodus of the Jews from slavery. It is a celebration of freedom for the Jews. Bye, see you another time! I hope you enjoyed!!!

Easter is one of the main events that happen for Christians. If you want to fully understand Easter we must go back in time. I am not talking about going 10 years back or something, I’m talking about going back to the ancient times. Grab your knapsack and let’s get going!
Easter means an ancient, pagan goddess, Eastre, sometimes spelled Eostre. She was the goddess of spring and she was worshiped by the Teutonic tribes. Early missionaries (people sent on a religious mission) were seeking to convert people of theTeutonic tribes. They adopted the celebration of Eastre’s festival as their own. It was perfect because the festival fell around the same time as the Christian's memorial of Jesus' resurrection. You might still be wondering why in Easter there is an Easter Bunny and Easter Eggs. Well, both of these common symbols of Easter are derived from ancient, pagan traditions. Easter's pagan symbol was the rabbit or hare. In the Teutonic tribes the egg symbolizes rebirth and renewal. This brings us to the end of my short essay on Easter. I hope you were just as fascinated by this as I was when I was researching.

Good Friday
By Shruti Shanmugam
You may know of Good Friday. You may expect me to talk about the sad parts of the holiday. But that’s not what I’m here to talk about. I want to help you understand the good behind it too.
Good Friday sounds pretty good, doesn’t it? Well, it is not. Actually, it depends on the way you look at it. It marks the Friday before Easter Sunday. It commemorates Jesus Christ’s crucifixion and his death at Calvary. Now, those are some facts about Good Friday.
When you just heard that, you might’ve thought, “Oof, that’s really sad.” But a good thing, I believe, is behind it at the same time. When you watch the news or even read the news articles, there’s always negativity. We only know of the bad things happening in our world. But when you hear that Christ sacrificed himself for the sins of the humans, you might feel sad. Sad, that someone else had to pay for what everyone else did. But that gives me hope that there are people out there who dare to do anything for the world. That is the good part of Good Friday. Here’s a list of facts about Good Friday:
The day before Good Friday is known as Maundy Thursday
Good Friday finds expression in the German word Karfreitag
The painting Christ Crucified:
I know, it’s painful to look at. But remember in your heart, that there are people who would do anything for the world. That’s the main thing everyone should remember on this day.

Let’s start with a basic question. What exactly is our planet, Earth? Well, many of you may say, “It’s the only planet with life in it.” Others may say, “It’s the third closest planet to the sun in the solar system.” Let’s dig a little bit deeper; what exactly is Earth? It’s a planet, of course. But what else? Okay, let’s break down the whole question.
Who’s the person who will give you anything you need and will not worry about herself? Yes, that person is your mother! Okay, moving on to the next part of the question: What is the name of the planet you are standing on right now? Come on, everybody knows this. YES, IT’S EARTH! Okay now put the two answers together…oh, now I see the light bulbs! So the answer to the question as a whole is Mother Earth!
Many of you may have heard the term, Mother Earth. But do we realize the essential meaning of that? As we know, mothers are passionate, benevolent people, who dare to do anything for their children. They give everything necessary to their children. At this point, you may be thinking, “Hey, why is this kid talking about mothers when she’s supposed to be talking about Earth?” Well, think about it. We, humans, and every living thing on this planet, is considered Earth’s children. If we’re Earth’s children, Earth is our mother! Viola!
Mother Earth provides us so many resources, and all we do is waste them. We cut trees, which are habitats to many organisms. We kill innocent animals, which causes more and more animals to become endangered. The food chains are breaking apart. Have you read the many articles, spreading awareness of global warming? You probably did. And now, it’s up to us, children, to help the world.
Ms.Tanis always says, “We are a team, and we are in this together.” Now I am saying the same thing for a different cause. We are a team, and we have to learn to be one. We are supposed to be a good team, not a broken-up one.
Well, if you back into the 1900s, we had the Civil Rights Movement, followed by the Holocaust. Both of them have something in common. Can you take a guess at what it is? The similarity is that both time periods have racism, hate, and segregation included. Even after those times passed, they left a mark behind. Even now, there are racist people. If we don’t learn to tolerate our differences, how can we be a team and work together?
Many people believe this year’s Earth Day was the worst, due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19). Well, that’s actually not true. This year’s Earth Day was the most quietest and the air was less polluted. If you have read the latest news articles, they say that Nature is taking back it’s place. What I mean by that, is that the chance of animals being endangered has reduced. Animals cannot be hunted. Since not many cars are on the move, the air is less polluted. So this lockdown is a good thing too. Let this lockdown be a lesson for us all. We should accept, regret, and fix our mistakes. Let’s be a team and learn to accept our differences. Stay home, and stay safe.

Hi! I just celebrated my ** birthday (nice try... my students would love it if I revealed my age here... but that will never happen). I teach 3rd grade and I love my job. I also love exploring the city, watching movies, and dancing. I hope everyone is staying safe and healthy and "getting together" with loved one through social platforms.
