TEACHER OF THE MONTH!!!
Guess who is the teacher of the month? It’s Ms. Ginfrida! Okay, here's a question, how long has she been teaching? She’s been a teacher for 13 years! That's a long time. She would retire when she’s a 100 YEARS OLD, whoa, hold on.. a 100 YEARS OLD?!!! That’s a REALLY long time!!! Mrs. Ginfrida became a teacher because interestingly, her mom was a teacher herself so she thought that teaching was the best job for her. Well, who doesn’t wanna follow in their parents footsteps? Why did start teaching at the best school ..Oak Tree Road School #29? Ms. Ginfrida answered,
”I was just born ready.” What’s her favorite lesson to teach in third grade? Well, her favorite lesson is to teach fractions. I LOVE FRACTIONS! Ms. Ginfrida’s favorite subject is reading because she wants to discover new things. What’s your favorite subject? I personally LOVE reading like Ms. Ginfrida. Congratulations for Ms. Ginfrida of being the teacher of the month!!!

This month of October we don’t have one student of the month, but four whole classes that are in the same grade! That grade is Kindergarten. Let's welcome the new kindergartners to our school with the student(s) of the month award. Since we have more than one student of the month, we asked the teachers the questions instead of the kids. On the first day of school the kids in Miss.Coons’s class were scared but very excited to be there. Also in Ms. Conrad’s class the kids were worried but excited. Sadly, in Mrs. Yajnik’s class, she noticed that the kids were excited but some were crying. In Mrs. Ward’s class the kids were nervous and excited. On my first day, I felt the same way. All the teachers think that the new kids are starting to enjoy school. The teachers said that greetings and morning meetings help the children feel more comfortable. They also said that getting to know each other helps and so does attending specials (gym, music, art, and computers). Well from now on, there will be one student and not 4 classes! I hope you have a good and SAFE Halloween! Have fun!

Mrs. W is a lunch and recess aid. She mainly takes care of the kids during recess and lunch. Have you ever wondered why she picked that job, its because she loves being around kids and enjoys their honesty. She loves her job because every day is a new day. Did you know what inspired her to do that job, she got inspired by the kids around her. Do you guys think that job suits her? I think that being a lunch aid suits her perfectly. She thinks that she is a great lunch aid because her love is for students.

What’s the name of the holiday that you wear a costume on and go around to other people’s houses to get some candy? It’s Halloween, which is on the last day of October! But while you enjoy trick or treating with your friends, have you ever thought about the history of Halloween? Well, the history began many, many years ago. Many of you may not know the real meaning of Halloween which is “hallowed evening”. This holiday is celebrated on the last day of October because a Gaelic holiday of Samhain happened on this day (the Celtic people celebrated this holiday). Many believed that the people were able to connect with the dead on that day. Samhain contained many ceremonies connected to the spirits. The Celts celebrated by wearing costumes in disguise against the spirits. They also made lanterns by carving gourds such as pumpkins As the time passed, Christianity then took over the holiday and modified it. We still use some of the traditions like wearing costumes and making jack-o-lanterns. So now you know why we celebrate Halloween! Happy trick-or-treating!

The History Of Basketball
By: Zakeriah M. Sadiq
Basketball is one of the most famous sports in the United States of America. There are two teams and each team is made of eight to ten players. The point of the game is to score the balls in a basketball hoop on a open space called a court. The area of a basketball court where the two hoops are located is 4,700 square feet.
To score points, each team has to make the ball into the basket. To receive two or three points, it depends on where you shoot from. The team that scores the most points by the end of the given time, wins the game.
Basketball was created by Dr. James Naismith in December 1891 in Springfield, Massachusetts. Dr. James Naismith was a physical educator, inventor, and a doctor. The first game was played at Springfield College in the same state it was invented in. Later on, the NBA and WNBA, (National Basketball Association), was formed. It is a professional North American league for men and women. Believe it or not, on November 7th, 1896, the first known professional Basketball game was played in our state of New Jersey between the NJ Nets and the Trenton YMCA. It was played at the Trenton Masonic Temple of New Jersey. Who knew that basketball’s first professional league played in our state of New Jersey? Now that’s amazing!

Poetry is about fun,
and love, and more,
These are some poems,
I adore.
I like acrostics poems,
and funny ones too,
I read so many,
More than 22!
It doesn't have to rhyme,
It's certainly not a crime,
Just use your imagination,
And be creative too,
Go On! Write a poem,
There's nothing you can't do!

Happy National Custodian Day! So what is National Custodian Day? National Custodian Day or also called as “National Custodian Appreciation Day” is on October 2nd. Some people might not know this, but on this holiday, we say thanks to all those custodians to everything they do to help us. Believe it or not, but most custodians help you without you even knowing! They work hard everyday to help us a lot. They help clean up your things and try hard to make you comfortable where you are. Something people do to thank them is some special meetings, small parties, or just a little kind card for thanking them. You can also give the custodians a small gift too. They actually get up in the morning very early and finish their work before the others can start theirs in a comfortable surrounding. National Custodian Day is mostly in USA. So there are only a few days till that special day for the custodians. When that day comes, you can give them a card for their hard working job or a small gift. They will feel so special inside and be really happy. So what everyone should do is whenever they see a custodian working or doing anything, tell them thank you for what they do for us. Always be thankful for what they do.
So, there are 2 custodians in our school and they work really hard to help us. Their names are Mr. John and Mr. Joe. They work very hard but you just don’t see it. If you are having any questions, I will answer them. Some people are probably wondering how long they have been working here and the answer is 1 ½ years. That is actually a lot for a custodian! They both chose this job because they need to pay their health benefits. Mr. John’s and Mr. Joe’s favorite things to do is going outside and playing golf. I really enjoy golf too! Their favorite Disney characters are Buzz Lightyear and Sleeping Beauty. Those are very cool! Something interesting about them is that their favorite holiday is Christmas and Thanksgiving! Those 2 holidays are fabulous! Now everyone is probably wondering if they have any pets. One of them does and one of them doesn’t! Mr. Joe has a cat! Cats are so cute. Mr. Joe has 2 daughters! He probably has a loving family. Both of them are actually super helpful and caring custodians! We all should say thank you to them too. They do their best to help us. There is no way to describe how loyal, kind, and nice they are.

Diwali is a five-day Hindu festival. The first night of it is called Dhanteras. It is the day to celebrate wealth. ‘Dhan’ means wealth, and ‘tera’ is the 13th of Krishna Paksha, also called the dark fortnight. We believe that worshiping Goddess Lakshmi and bringing new things on this day is a sign of good luck. The second day is called Kali Chaudas. Also called Kal Chaturdashi or Narak Chaturdashi. On this day we worship Kali, the Goddess of Strength. This strength helps us destroy the demons like laziness, anger, greed and impurity from within each of us. Also, on this day, Satyabhama with the help of Lord Krishna, took the challenge of rescuing 16,000 young innocent women. This day is celebrated as freedom from tyranny of the evil king. These people celebrated this event the next day by lighting lamps. The following day is Diwali. This is the main day of the festival. On this day, business people worship the books of accounts. At the same time, it is time to take account of one's life and remove anger, hatred, envy from life and have renewed hope for the new year. This day is also the festiousands of lights are lit in every home, but if the light within us is not lit, all the others would lose their meaning. A lamp or deep is the symbol of knowledge. We remember the Mantra- Tamaso Ma Jyotir Gamaya- lead us from darkness to light also meaning, lead us from ignorance to knowledge. We also do a Lakshmi pooja. The next day is New Year's Day, also called Balipratipada. Bali was a famous king in ancient India. Though he ignored the divine thoughts of Vedas, he was a generous donor who gave from his heart. (Some who are blinded by ‘kanak’, gold or wealth, and ‘kaanta’ beauty or women, become asurs or demons) Lord Vishnu destroyed Bali and gave us a unique outlook towards wealth and beauty. The final day of Diwali is called Bhai Beej, or Bhai Dooj. This day symbolizes selfless love of brothers and sisters. This day also symbolizes the society’s respect for all women. The entire festival is celebrated in many ways. We light diyas (candles) and we wear new clothes. We also decorate our homes, do firecrackers, give out gifts, and we have feasts with a lot of sweets. However, throughout this festival, while doing everything else that we do, mostly, we remember our love for each other and for God.
This is how and why we celebrate the festival, Diwali.

Respect comes with many definitions but the main one is the golden rule . The golden rule is to treat everyone the way they want to be treated. Anyway, respect is this month’s Character Ed trait. On the previous month, Ms. DiSilvestro introduced us to respect and the character traits. Respect also means to treat yourself nicely and to have self esteem. Respect is very important. Another thing about respect is to respect yourself, not only other people. You can respect other people in many different ways such as helping them and listening to other people when they are talking to you. Or maybe you can pick up litter you see on the playground. There are many ways to respect people.
You can show people respect by authority as well, like being a police officer or firefighter. Respect also means to feel or show honor to yourself and other people. A main part of respect is to make people feel normal like everyone else. I think respect is a major part of society. Anyway, that’s it for respect!
