Women’s Day is celebrated for the women’s right movement and it is also a civil awareness day, women and girls day, and anti-discrimination day.” "After the Socialist Party of America organized a Women's Day on February 28, 1909, in New York, the 1910 International Socialist Woman's Conference suggested a Women's Day be held annually." (Google) The world has got some really inspirational women such as Serena Williams, Amelia Earhart, Helen Keller, and many more. It doesn’t just have to be famous people that are important for Women’s Day. It's everyone.
But did you know that Women’s Day is celebrated for many different reasons around the world? The ones that I listed above were the most famous ones. Do you know what Quidditch is from the famous book series ”Harry Potter”? Quidditch is not just in Harry Potter but it is actually a real sport! Quidditch is a wizarding sport played on broomsticks. It is the most popular game and most well-known game among wizards and witches, and, according to Rubeus Hagrid, it is equivalent to Muggles' (The term for normal humans in Harry Potter) passion for football. It is a sport of two teams of seven players each mounted on broomsticks played on a hockey rink-sized pitch. Quidditch is based on a fictional game of the same name , it was invented by author J. K. Rowling, which is featured in the Harry Potter series of novels and related media. The equipment contains of the Quaffle (volleyball), Bludgers (dodgeballs), Snitch (tennis ball), Brooms, Hoops. Here are the positions: The game is played by two teams of seven people (three Chasers, two Beaters, one Keeper, and one Seeker) and involves four balls (a Quaffle, two Bludgers, and a Golden Snitch). The game only ends when a player catches the Golden Snitch. Did you know the Highest governing body in Quidditch is the International Quidditch Association. It was first played in 2005, Middlebury Vermont. Also, Catching the golden snitch gets the team 150 points and ends the game. Now if team A scores 170 points and team B is at 10, even if team B catches the snitch, team A would win the match. This is exactly what happened in the Quidditch World Cup final between Bulgaria and Ireland in The Goblet Of Fire. I hope you liked learning about Quidditch.
Tennis is a game played by most of the countries in the world. It is also played in the Olympics. Tennis has four major leagues called the Australian Open, Roland- Garros, Wimbledon, and the most favorite, US Open. Those four major tournaments are called Grand Slams. The one thing about tennis that is unique is that it is played in various surfaces. The US Open is played on hardcourt. The Wimbledon is played in grasscourt. In addition that Australian Open is played in the same hardcourt. But the Roland- Garros is played in the clay court.
Tennis is not a team sport . You either play a doubles or a singles match. There is a tournament called Davis cup. In that you do have teammates but you play a few singles and a few doubles matches . If a team wins 4 matches they go to the next round.
Now let’s talk about the star players. There are a lot like Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray, John Isner , and Juan Martin. Now let’s talk about a few star doubles players like Bob Bryan, Mike Bryan, Jack Sock, and Jamie Murray.
Hope you guys enjoy playing tennis!
Kids in Ireland pinch their friends that don’t wear green on St. Patrick’s Day.
Irish restaurants go crazy putting green food coloring into their beverages.

4. St. Patrick was born in 385 AD in Britannia.
5. St. Patrick’s actual name is Maewyn Succat.
Hey everyone! Do you know who the student of the month is this month? Well, the student of the month is Tanish Bhojawala from Mrs. Kozub’s 5th grade class. Tanish was really excited when he found out he was the student of the month. His favorite sport is basketball. Did you guys know that Tanish dressed up as Santa Claus on his 6th birthday?! He liked our old school (Kennedy Park) better than this school, but he also likes this school because the classrooms are big. Tanish’s mom and dad’s advice really inspires him. His birthday is on December 7th. Tanish also won the Martin Luther King Jr. essay competition for 5th graders this year. His favorite subject in school is science. I can't wait to see who the Student of the Month is next month!
Well this Women's History Month, the teacher of the month is Mrs. Kozub! She feels very happy that the whole “team including her lunch aid, the teacher, and a student all from Mrs. Kozub“ are featured this month in the newspaper. Her favorite memory with her class is seeing the students work with Mrs. Yajnik’s class on leprechaun traps. She enjoys being part of the Spirit Squad, is getting to know students out of the class and wants the students for this to feel like their new home . She has been teaching for 12 years. If is didn’t get the job of teaching, she would’ve been a legislative aid and study politics. Oh I can’t wait to know who the Teacher of the Month will be next month! Will it be your teacher or my teacher? We'll just have to wait till next month!
🆘🆘🆘🆘🆘🆘🆘🆘🆘🆘🆘🆘
Our Support Teacher of the month this month is Mrs. Buonjovanni. Her birthday is on August 31st. She has been an aide for 19 years. She believes that every day is a adventure and you won’t have it any other way. She is a lunch aid for the fourth and fifth grade. Her favorite color is purple. She taught at Kennedy Park Elementary School #24 and now also at Oak Tree Road Elementary School #29. She is truly an amazing aide.

What is Read Across America? Well, Read Across America, or RAA, is an annual reading motivation, and awareness program. It celebrates reading around the world, and is celebrated on the 2nd of March, and was created by the NEA, or the National Education Association. It is devoted to Dr. Seuss, a talented children's author whose books will make your day, when you feel gray. Some books written by him are: ‘Oh, The Places You’ll Go’, ‘Seuss-isms’ etc. In my opinion, reading is one of the best ways to gain knowledge. It’s very important to read books on a daily basis. Dr. Seuss died on the 24th of September, 1991. Even after his death, we remember him as an amazing man with a great talent.

Daylight savings time, is when our time goes back one hour. This happens worldwide, even though it happens at different times in each country. For example, it happens on March 10th in U.S.A. and on March 31st in the UK [known as united kingdom]. Every year, the time changes on different dates. For example, it happened on March 11th last year in the U.S.A., and happened on March 10th this year. This year, daylight savings time will end on November 3rd. I hope you learned something new about daylight savings time by reading this.

Student Council is back, this time with a new fundraiser. Student Council is doing a Markers and Crayons Drive!!!! Ms. Sepa, and Ms. Ginfrida are doing this event with the 4th and 5th grade students in Student Council. Now, who exactly thought of this idea? Ms. Ginfrida had the idea, but Ms. Coons sent her an email about it too. The credit can go to both teachers.
Why did Ms. Ginfrida and Ms. Sepa think of recycling crayons? We are running out of space to put our garbage and its good for the environment. Ms. Ginfrida was inspired to do this because it seems wasteful to throw away something that can be recycled or reused again. We are running this drive to help the school and community. To accomplish this new idea is a big task. We need to collect crayons and markers in boxes and then ship them. Ms. Ginfrida also has plans for doing this every year. Now, many kids also may be wondering that what will we do with all these crayons and markers. We are actually sending the markers to the Crayola Factory in Pennsylvania, and the crayons to an Crayon initiative in California who donate the crayon to Children’s Hospital. The more crayons we get, the better for kids from other charities. Once Ms. Ginfrida, is done collecting the crayons, she will send the collection boxes to the centers.
Student Council has not only been led by Ms. Ginfrida and Ms. Sepa. A long time ago, Ms. Passarelli and Mrs. Stephen used to work with Student Council too. Overall, I believe that Ms. Ginfrida and Ms. Sepa are doing a great job running the student Council.
The Rutgers Outstanding students got a huge opportunity to watch a men’s basketball game. The Rutgers Outstanding students were handpicked from the Oak Tree Road School by each teacher. Now, you may be wondering, how were the Rutgers Outstanding Students picked? This was an award, that teachers from each classroom would select a student. The students would have to prove to act the best in class. It also shows the accomplishments the students made in the school year. Classroom teachers don’t only get to pick students, some special teachers, such as the music teacher( Ms. Avner) and the band teacher( Ms. Vingara) also get to pick students for their outstanding performance. For the students who did get selected, great job to you all, but for the students who didn’t, there is always next year to prove to your teachers. The men’s Rutgers Basketball team is waiting for you!
Today you are you! That is truer than true! There is no one alive who is you-er than you!

The Ides of March was the day when Julius Caesar was assassinated by his best friend. His friend, Marcus Junius Brutus killed him by stabbing him in the stomach at the Theater of Pompey. This occurred in Rome, Italy on March 15th 44 BC (Before Christ). Julius Caesar's famous line while being stabbed was, "καὶ σὺ, τέκνον" which means “And you, Brutus?”. In the play Julius Caesar, a psychic told him “Beware the Ides of March”. He ignored the prediction and didn’t expect it to happen. Caesar’s death resulted in a long series of civil wars that ended in the death of the Roman Republic and the birth of the Empire. I hope you enjoyed learning about the Ides of March.

Integrity means to be honest and to show a consistent and uncompromising adherence to strong moral and ethical principles and values. In ethics, integrity is regarded as the honesty and truthfulness or accuracy of one's actions. Integrity is to be true to yourself and would do nothing that demeans or dishonors you. Integrity means lots of stuff. You can have integrity at work like one of the fundamental values that employers seek in the employees that they hire. That’s all for integrity but there is more to it which you can find on your own.

What is Mardi Gras? Mardi Gras, or Fat Tuesday, is a holiday that refers to events of the Carnival celebration, on beginning or after the Christian feasts of the Epiphany and culminating on the day before Ash Wednesday. You might also think “What is Ash Wednesday?” Well, Ash Wednesday is a Christian holy day of prayer, fasting, even if it is not a holy day of obligation. It is preceded by Shrove Tuesday and falls on the first day of Lent, the six weeks before Easter. You might again be thinking “What is Shrove Tuesday?” Well, Shrove Tuesday is the day in February or March immediately preceding Ash Wednesday, which is celebrated in some countries with pancakes. Yum Yum Yum, I love pancakes, who wouldn’t? Now, let’s get back to the topic of Mardi Gras. Mardi Gras has some rituals like for example, it has handing over the Key to the City.” Another is they have to be wearing masquerade masks. Mardi Gras has other rituals like parades, changing the date every year, throwing coconuts, handing out doubloons, etc. You might now wonder “Why do people celebrate Mardi Gras?” Well, I’ll tell you why. One reason is that even though Mardi Gras is French for Fat Tuesday, the Mardi Gras season actually begins on a Epiphany, a Christian holiday celebrated on January 6th, which is Three Kings or known as the Twelfth Day of Christmas. In New Orleans, people celebrate Mardi Gras by beginning the fasting season called Lent, and for many Christians it leads up to Easter Sunday. Mardi Gras is filled with interesting rituals to celebrate, and I hope that you were just as fascinated reading this as I was researching.
I started making leprechaun traps since I was in 1st grade, and recently I made one with my 5th-grade class. Leprechauns are tiny little creatures only about a couple of feet tall. They snoop around your house trying to find gold. This tradition is from the Irish folklore. Children from Ireland make traps the day before St.Patrick's day.
They say if a person captures a leprechaun they can grant 3 wishes for their release. If you realize that lots of accidents are happening in your house, like things breaking, losing stuff. Then keep in mind it might be a leprechaun or it could just be coincident. I’ll give you some tips for capturing them. Leprechauns love Irish music like the tin whistle. You can lure them into your trap. You can put honey in your traps to stick them on the honey so you can capture it. Put shiny gold coins and make a trail for you to lead it where you want it to. Leprechauns get powers from fairies so they can put a trance on the human to escape from them. Keep your eyes peeled!
Earth day is a day to clean up the Earth and and find any waste that is harmful to the Earth. We celebrate it every April 22. It was first founded by a senate named Gaylord Nelson after he saw a large oil spill in Santa Barbara, California. He created Earth Day because he wanted to protect the Earth by throwing waste in the proper place. He found it on April 22, 1970 which is why we celebrate it on every April 22. On Earth Day, people come outside and get together with families to clean up all the waste. When they clean it, the roads, paths, and grass are clean and fresh making people who walk, drive, and ride bicycles safe. This is why Earth Day is important to the people and the Earth.
The first day of spring is always mysterious. It could be rainy, sunny, or maybe even snowy. But I doubt that. The first day of spring is on March 20th. Flowers will start to bloom, rain will start to fall, and leaves will start grow back on trees. During spring the are exactly 12 hours of daylight and 12 hours of darkness. In the spring you should wear light clothes to avoid too much sunlight. Wearing dark colors can make you too hot. You know which hot I’m talking about. Right?? Anyway back to my advice.
You’ll begin to start see more people at the park. It’s a perfect time to make new friends. But I'm not telling you to talk to strangers. Just so that's clear. Also in the spring you get a week of spring break. This is a perfect time to socialize with family, meet with friends, and even go on vacation.
Unfortunately spring ends soon enough. Then it's time for summer when its very humid. Enjoy the first day of spring because soon enough it will be over. As my teacher had told me there's a traditional egg trick she does with her mom. Every year at a specific time hold up an egg according to the time it will stand up by itself, to introduce the first day of spring. That's all about spring for today.

Mrs. Kozub's 5th Grade Class Celebrating HOLI!!!!
Have you ever heard about Holi or the festival of colors? Holi is a beautiful holiday celebrated by many Hindus. Holi also marks the the beginning of spring. It is celebrated on March 20 through March 21.It starts in the evening of Purmina or known as the Full Moon Day.On Holi you throw many colors at our loved ones and others. The vibrancy of the colors is something that brings a lot of positive things into our lives.Another fact about Holi is that it is celebrated in almost every part of India with enthusiasm. This beautiful festival starts by lighting a bonfire known as Holika Dahan. They put rangolis around their house. The festival of love also known as Holi triumphs good over evil. In every Hindu holiday there is a mythical legend behind it. There are many. “A Guide to Life for those just starting out and those already on their way.” The Seuss-isms can change your life and open a new doorway. It encourages people to try new things and be true to themselves. You may even find it in one of your bookshelves. Sometimes you might find life hard and feel like running away, but life isn’t always easy and we learn that the hard way. Things don’t always go as you plan and sometimes you need a helping hand. It’s always good to do new things and try, try again.
“Did you ever fly a kite in bed? Did you ever walk with ten cats on your head?” These things you may never have done that is true but it’s important to “Take a Walk on the Wildside” too. Do something unusual and new everyday and soon you’ll be off and away. Never stop doing the unexpected and things you’ve never done. Trust me it’s always super fun. We should have fun more often and do the untold because I’m guessing your regular life is becoming pretty boring and old. One thing’s for sure there’s a limit to everything we do but anything can become an adventure, even tying your own shoe.
“A person is a person no matter how small.” An elephant is an elephant no matter how tall. One person can change the world in one second’s time. And someone doing the right thing is worth a thousand dimes. We can do anything and life is limitless and one person can do anything that he or she pleases. Don’t stop your journey just because someone else won. You should “Never Underestimate the Power of 1.” Never giving up is the path to follow and pride is something you may have to swallow. It’s never easy standing up to the world but to make a change you need to give it a whirl. Sometimes you might fall, sometimes you might rise, who knows? Life is always a surprise.
A person is like flower waiting to bloom. It’ll be your turn to blossom soon. Be kind and loyal everyday and always have something nice to say. Just saying something nice everyday is a good start but it’s important to learn to “Open Your Heart.” Joke around a bit and have fun in life and never stop trying, alright. Always listen and be caring and considerate and never stop trying new things that are different. When things seem hopeless look at the bright side. There’s always something, am I right? Teach everything that you can teach and give all the love that you can give. Continue making the world a better place to live.
Life is an endless journey filled with many twists and turns. But what’s important is the lessons you’ve learned. “And will you succeed? Yes! You will, indeed. (98 and ¾ percent guaranteed.) KID, YOU’LL MOVE MOUNTAINS!”

Youth Art Month is a month of promoting art and art education in the United States. It is observed in March, with thousands of American schools participating, often with the involvement of local art museums and civic organizations.
Youth Art Month was founded by the Crayon, Watercolor & Craft Institute, Inc., the predecessor of the Art & Creative Materials Institute, Inc. (ACMI), in cooperation with the National Art Education Association, in 1961 and was initially called Children's Art Month. Its goal was to "emphasize the value of participating in art for all children." It was renamed Youth Art Month in 1969, to include secondary school students. In 1984, ACMI created the Council for Art Education, Inc. (CFAE) to oversee the annual observation of Youth Art Month. As of 2009, CFAE consisted of representatives of: ACMI, the National Art Education Association, "The SHIP" (a group of manufacturers of art materials), and the General Federation of Women's Clubs. The Craft & Hobby Association is also involved in Youth Art Month.
The main nationwide component of Youth Art Month is a competition called School Flags Across America . . . Flying High. As part of the competition, each state Youth Art Month Chairperson selects a theme that is representative of that state and of the spirit of Youth Art Month, and students design flags around that theme. The winning design from each state is then made into an actual flag, and the 50 student-designed flags are then displayed throughout Washington, D.C. following an opening ceremony held the first week of March to commemorate the start of Youth Art Month. The winning students and their families are invited to attend this opening ceremony in Washington, D.C. and the flags are displayed throughout the city for March, and then displayed at the Youth Art Month booth at the annual convention of the National Art Education Association.
Governors and mayors throughout the United States issue proclamations declaring March as Youth Art Month, and many United States Senators, Member of Congress, and state legislators take the opportunity to make public statements in favor of art education.
Observation of Youth Art Month is carried out by volunteers around the country, including art educators, parents, librarians, leaders of youth organizations, businesspeople, and students.
Activities depend on the efforts of local volunteers, and include: display of student art at art museums, libraries, and other places throughout the community; talks, forums, and discussions on art; partnerships with local newspapers, radio stations, and TV stations to raise the profile of youth art and art education in the community; local art competitions, often with winning student art displayed somewhere prominent in the community (e.g. at local bus stops); cross-promotions to raise awareness of other local charities or to beautify the community; special events, such as sidewalk chalk displays, ice sculpture carving, and craft workshops.
St.Patrick’s Day Superstitions
Have you guys heard of St. Patrick's day superstitions Well here are some St.Patrick’s day superstitions. You shouldn’t make leprechauns your friends. They have a reputation for being deceitful tricksters. But they can lead you to treasures. Got an unstoppable itch on your left hand? It may mean a pot of gold is coming your way. If you come across a horseshoe, nail it to the door. And don’t even think about buying one or using a gifted horseshoe, It must be found spontaneously. Want to know who you will marry? Put a snail on a plate of flour, cover it and leave overnight. In the morning the snail’s path will have carved out the initials of your future mate. These are some st.Patrick’s day superstitions that the Irish use to believe in.
Well, lately you may have noticed that there are two officers around the school with a stuffed lion that says D.A.R.E. Who exactly are these officers, and what is D.A.R.E.? Well, D.A.R.E. is an educational program which stands for Drug Abuse Resistance Education. It was established in 1983. The officers in our school are Officer Brittney Brodniak (ma’am)and Officer Chris McRae (gentleman). This interview that I will tell you about today is with Officer Brittney. I asked her what she liked best about teaching D.A.R.E. and she responded by saying that she liked to be able to teach valuable lessons and loved building relationships with the students. My next question was, “Do you think D.A.R.E. actually affects kids?” She responded, “Yes, because it teaches not only about drug abuse but it teaches life lessons, bullying, peer pressure.” If she could have any other job in the world or teach D.A.R.E., she would teach D.A.R.E. I also asked her if she had D.A.R.E. as a child and if it affected her. Her response was that yes, she did have it as a child and it did help her. She NEVER did drugs. “Who inspired you to teach D.A.R.E.?” I asked. She answered by saying that she kind of inspired herself because she wanted to teach kids. My last question that I asked her was about what she did before she started teaching D.A.R.E. Her answer was dispatching at the beginning and then working in the Sheriff’s office, first transporting inmates where they needed to go and then investigation. I would now like to take time to thank all the officers that help our country and especially, Officer Brittney Brodniak and Officer Chris McRae, for taking time from their family and friends to serve us or teach us. Thank you very much.
Want to know about parakeets! Well you came to the right place.I have two of my own. One is blue and one is yellow. They are very cute and have very pretty colors. A parakeet is any bird of a large number of small to medium-sized species of parrots. The main reason why you might prefer to have just one parakeet is that a solo bird generally is more affectionate toward his owner. But if you get two it won’t be as lonely and will have a less chance of dying. They also come in all different colors and sizes. Dehydration can kill your bird quickly, so always make sure there's water in their cage. Parakeets can get very cold sometimes by the weather. Parakeets and cockatiels are most comfortable with a median house temperature around 70 degrees. You can also teach your bird to speak with you. You can say things to your parakeet multiple times. Also give a treat to them if they says what you said to them. Parakeets can also make 'emotional' attachment to a human. Those were some things and facts about parakeets.
