She actually started teaching in 1986. Her favorite thing to teach is reading. She loves reading. I do too! She doesn’t have a favorite book, because there are too many to name. Her favorite color is pink. Her favorite friends are named Valerie, Eileen, and Debbie. What awesome names! Ms.Younghans’ favorite food is chicken parm. On the first day of school, Ms.Younghans was nervous and excited at the same time! I was also feeling the same way. Her favorite movie is “The Notebook”. That was a good movie. Her favorite holiday is Thanksgiving, because she loves the season, and you get to eat a large feast! Mmm!

Congratulations Ms.Younghans for being the teacher of the month!!!!!!!

Student Of The Month: All 2nd graders

Interviewer: Diya Parthiban

Writer: Gurleen Kaur

Photo: Haneen Elsaid

Hello, my name is Diya. How many of you think of the time when you were in 2nd grade? Awesome grade right! The reason I’m asking is because they are the students of the month!! My take was I loved it, and I know that the golden eagles in 2nd grade have awesome teachers as well! I would like to see the perspective of the students as well, but first let me tell you a little about the year.

It’s a time when you have to worry about stuff but there is still a lot of time to relax and do kid stuff. As a 5th grader let me tell you, you don’t have much time to have fun. You get lunch before recess and had a fun time. Now enough about what I think lets see what the people in 2nd grade ( student or otherwise) have to say about some of the questions the interviewer asked:

~interviews~

"It feels pretty good",said one

Another one said,"Weird,but good."

"Super and awesome",said a little girl in 2nd grade.

"Amazing simply",said another student.

I couldn't give better answers, of course I am not them so I would probably give different answers but my point is 2nd grade is awesome!!

Support of the Month: Ms.Robson

Writer: Shailey Patel

Interviewer: Anagha Vineeth

If you don’t know who Mrs. Robson is, she is our Oak Tree Road School nurse. Mrs. Robson is very very nice and helps students that are in need. For an example, when someone gets pushed by someone else, the person who is being pushed goes to a school nurse and gets a band-aid. It also matters how hard the push is and how much the person gets hurt. But if you need a band-aid, you know where to go. From the time we get to school and the time until lunch she is always open but when lunch is over, Mrs. Robson’s lunch just got started. So instead of going to Mrs. Robson and disturbing her lunch break, you can go before, but if you got hurt after Mrs. Robson’s lunch break, then I don’t know what to tell you. You just have to wait for a while. And I forgot to tell you that if Mrs. Robson is with another patient, you wait in her waiting room. And don’t worry, there are puzzles and games for you to play until it’s your turn. So this is all I know about our Oak Tree Road School nurse, (Mrs. Robson) and I hoped this article gives you all the information you get when you have a problem like this.

COOPERATION

This month we are learning about cooperation! You might ask what is cooperation. Cooperation is when people work together as a team. Like when you are in a group project you all work together to pass the class. Cooperation is how people get together and become friends. It’s the key to peace in the world. At a kids park you might see a lot of cooperation and teamwork! Have you ever showed teamwork? I work as a team with my class! Working as a team feels very good! One day, we had to do a S.T.E.A.M project and the teacher made 5 groups of 4. I was with 1 girl and 2 boys. We all made a plan to work with one person first and then discuss all our ideas next! We did what we thought and succeeded the project! I have showed teamwork more than 10 times. Teamwork is very important! You can cooperate with your family, friends, and other people. Cooperation rocks!

Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Everybody knows about the famous Martin Luther King Jr., but do we ever worry about MLK Day? MLK day is on Monday, January 21. It’s pretty easy to find out what the day is about, of course, MLK. We celebrate MLK’s achievements and life. MLK was a civil rights activist and was an amazing man. We celebrate the amazing things he did such as equal rights for all skin colors and not just whites. There are many traditions on MLK day. Some people go to church, and many others. Fun things to do on MLK day are reading interesting biographies of MLK. You can make banners and hang them around town. There are so many things to do, but these are only a few. We like to honor Martin Luther King Jr. with this day and remember everything he did to make our world how amazing it is.

5! 4! 3! 2! 1! HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!! 🎆🎇🎉 It’s the start of the new year, and it’s time to start fresh! Wipe away that sorrow people, because it’s a new year at Oak Tree Road School, and a new decade has started: 2020! Goodbye, 2019, and hello 2020!

I would like to ask you, how do you celebrate the new year? Do you stay up for the famous countdown at Times Square, New York and watch the ball drop, in the flesh? Do you watch it on the news? Do you scheme a new year’s resolution and a plan to achieve that resolution? Or, do you behave well because, news flash, if you do something on the first day of the year, you do it for the whole year? So, to answer my questions about how others celebrate the new year, I've interviewed some Oak Tree Road members!

First, we have Mrs. Ward, who celebrates New Year’s Eve with her family and friends! I’d love to hang out with my friends and family too! 👪👫

Second, we have Hareem, who gets a surprise every year! Surprises are a super way to start the new year!😉

Third, we have Miss Pelosi, who has dinner with her family and then goes to her friend’s house to watch the ball drop! Nice way to fit in everything!🙂

Fourth, we have Sandra in Mrs. Sepa’s class, who celebrates with a party and cuts some cake! Yummy and wild! 🧁🥳

Fifth, Mrs. Mosca has a quiet New Year’s Eve: going out for dinner and watching the ball drop. Nice and simple! 😃

And last but not least, Sankalp, who is in Mrs Tweedle’s class, celebrates by watching the ball drop! A beautiful sight, we’re happy all right! Having a fun time in the new year! 🤩

Well, these are all great ways to celebrate the new year, some ways are similar and some ways are unique! So, to end this article, I’d like to say, spread some cheer and celebrate the new year! 🥳

Chinese New Year

Writer: Talin Sharma

Illustrator: Harshil Shah

Happy New Year guys but now there is another one, it is the one and only...Chinese New year! For those of you who are chinese, you will know what is Chinese New Year. This is because the Chinese New Year is the most important holiday in all of China! It is also called the Spring Festival to celebrate the ending of the most harsh winter days. This year it fell on Saturday, January 25, but really it can fall on any day in between January 21 and February 20. Chinese New Year follows the Metonic cycle (a system used by the modern Jewish Calendar).

The Chinese people have 12 zodiac animals (one per year and it goes in a cycle) and this year is the year of the rat which is my year! The other 11 animals are ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, sheep, monkey, rooster, dog, and the pig. You might think that on your year you are lucky. Turns out, in your year you should wear red clothes everyday to protect yourself from evil spirits that try to get you!👹👿👺To find what is your animal go to Chinese Zodiac.

If you add the days of Chinese New Year + the days of the spring festival + the days of the Laba Festival in December you get about 40 days of celebration!!!🥳🎊🎉The Chinese love to party so much that the government has banned fireworks (yes fireworks)because of all the pollution caused by them!(🎆🎇<not allowed)☹️😞 Cheer up because kids still get gifts and money in red envelopes and the Chinese still decorate their houses and streets with red.(They like red a lot!) Did you know that ¼ of the world celebrates it and that the New Year ends with the lantern festival in which every one releases a lantern with a candle inside 🏮🏮and they all float up together and light up the sky? If I were Chinese I would definitely be in China during the New Year!

Dino of the Month

Brachiosaurus

By:Yashraj Shah

The brachiosaurus was a dinosaur that lived about 154 to 153 million years ago. The brachiosaurus was a sauropod, which means that it had a very long neck and ate plants. The brachiosaurus can be easily mistaken for other sauropods because of its size and huge body, but there are some things different about it, than other sauropods. One thing is that it has a huge hump on top of its head. It is located near the back of the head but still on top. Another thing that is different about the brachiosaurus is that the front two legs are longer than the back legs. The back legs were strong so sometimes when leaves were way too high up in the trees, it would stand up on the back two legs to reach the leaves. The brachiosaurus is truly a great dinosaur.
