Protecting Wrentham: This place-based project will focus on learning about the different lakes and rivers located in Wrentham MA. Students will discuss the difference between rivers and lakes, how they connect, what happens if we pollute them and how can we keep these bodies of water safe within our towns. They will research and explore the bodies of water in town to eventually create a, "pamphlet" for new student's who are moving to town.
Grade: Second grade
Outcomes: Students will be able to discuss the differences, similarities and characteristics between rivers and lakes. Students will also be able to name at least one of the major lakes in Wrentham. Students will be able to discuss how and why we should keep our bodies of water clean from pollution.
Standards:
ESS2. Earth’s Systems 2-ESS2- 2-ESS2-2. Map the shapes and types of landforms and bodies of water in an area.
2-ESS2-3. Use examples obtained from informational sources to explain that water is found in the ocean, rivers and streams, lakes and ponds, and may be solid or liquid.
Writing- (2.) Write informative/explanatory texts that introduce a topic, use facts and definitions to develop points, and provide a concluding statement or section.
