Mini Gardens:
Mini gardens are a fun was to explore in the classroom and even at home. This help students become mini gardeners where they have the responsibility of taking care of their plants. Mini gardens help students collect/ analyze data, make observations/ predictions and overall get excited about growing plants!
Please follow the directions below to start a mini garden with your child at home or the students in your classroom!
What they will need:
Three different types of seeds, four plants containing each seeds totaling 12 plants for this lesson.
Example: 4 carrot plants, 4 radish plants, 4 bean plants
The plants should be clearly labeled by the type of seed and along with numbering each set of four plants 1-4.
Students should be CRAETIVE while creating their mini gardens. Add color, labels and signs to the garden ot make it their own!
Decided where to place your mini garden! This place should have access to a lot of sun for the plants to get their nutrients.
Please make a Flipgrid video explaining what seeds you planted and what you expect is going to grow first!
Every single day at the same time, have the gardener take pictures of their garden and make observations of their plants!

This was the first picture of Miss. Woodall's mini garden! AT the beginning their were no clear observations to make about my garden.
I watered my plants every single day before I took pictures of my garden. I decided to plant four extra plants in my mini garden!
This was the last picture of Miss. Woodall's whole mini garden together!
My garden was very successful during the middle of the thirty days then towards the end, my plants slowly started to make no progress. A lot of my plants started to die towards the end.
Here is a picture of Miss. Cox's mini garden!
Miss. Woodall's Mini Garden
What was planted
4 radish plants
4 carrot plants
4 cherry tomato plants
4 leaf lettuce plants
Where the garden was growing
The mini garden was growing in my workout room where there was two huge windows that a lot of sun in the morning. When I constructed my research on my mini garden, I loved four of my plants into my office where the plants got a lot of sun in the afternoon. I moved two carrot plants and two cherry tomato plants to the new location.
3 questions I had about my garden at the start
What will happen if I don't water my plants every day?
What will happen if I didn't put enough seeds in the pod?
What if my plants don't grow?

Research Mini Garden:
After about three weeks of observing and taking pictures of my mini garden. I decided to create a research question..
"What will happen if I move one successful carrot plant, one successful cherry tomato plant, one unsuccessful carrot plant and one unsuccessful; cherry tomato plant to a new location in my house? Will these plants have more success of growing?
Within these two weeks of doing the research, continued to take pictures of this garden to make observations and see if the plants would grow or not.

Reflection:
After my mini garden and investigating my research questions, I have learned so many new things about making a mini garden!
Next time, I will use more seeds when I initially plant my seeds along with being in bigger cups. I believe I did not use enough seed and my cups were too small for my garden to really flourish and grow.
I will need to water my plants every single day while they are growing. While I was maintain my garden, I forgot to water my plants one day and it seemed to kill all of my plants! PLANTS NEED WATER!
Overall, give your plants enough attention and they will grow!
Comparing Miss. Woodall's Garden to Miss Cox's Garden!
Have students look at another classes garden and answer the following questions..
How many seeds do you think Miss. Cox's planted in each pot?
Why do you think Miss. Cox's had so much success in her garden?
What do the roots of her plants look like under the soil?
