Grade 9 HEALTH & PHYSICAL EDUCATION

www.edu.gov.on.ca/eng/curriculum/secondary/health9to12.pdf

This course equips students with the knowledge and skills they need to make healthy choices and lead healthy, active lives in the future. Through participation in a wide range of physical activities, students develop knowledge and skills related to movement compete and personal fitness that provide a foundation for active living. Students also acquire an understanding of the factors and skills that contribute to healthy development and learn how their own well-being is affected by, and affects, the world around them. Students build their sense of self, learn to interact positively with others, and develop their ability to think critically and creatively.

ATHLETIC BANQUET

In June we recognize and celebrate all varsity student athletes at GCI. A celebration dinner and awards presentation is held for all of the managers, coaches, players, parents and volunteers. The rich history of excellence can be seen on the championship banners hanging in the big gym and the historical photos outside of the gym.

SPORT SHSM (Grade 11/12)

What is a Specialist High School Major (SHSM)?

A SHSM is a ministry-approved specialized program that allows students to focus their learning on a specific economic sector (SPORT) while meeting the requirements to graduate from secondary school. It also assists in their transition after graduation to apprenticeship training, college, university or the workplace in sport.

INTRAMURALS

The Grade 12 Athletic Leadership class runs a series of fun and competitive drop in style sports and games during the second half of lunch. Students can drop in with proper active footwear. A great way to meet new friends and stay active.
