We are located on the fourth floor of the CASTLE. We have two different art dedicated art specific rooms, 401 and 405. We also have a black and white photography room, 404. We also have a dedicated flex space between these rooms, as well as our own kiln room.

What to Expect in Visual Art Courses.

Grade Nine Art- This is an introduction to, and exploration of a variety of different art materials, while also exploring Canadian Art and Ancient Art. All students need one arts credit to graduate, and this is a very exciting option for grade nine students.

Grade Ten Art- This is an extension of grade nine art, but you do not necessarily need grade nine art as a prerequisite. Students will explore a variety of both fine art and craft type projects. Students will also investigate art historical concepts such as Indigenous Art and Famous Artists throughout history.

Grade Eleven Art- students should have taken either grade nine or grade ten art to register for grade eleven art. Students will explore more artistically technical and rigorous materials and concepts. Students will also investigate art history concepts such as Modern art , Non Western art and Contemporary Canadian art.

Grade Twelve Art- students must have taken grade nine or ten art and grade eleven art to register for this course. This course includes an independent study unit, the composition of a portfolio, and a personal exhibition component. Many students use this course to help prepare them for post secondary education in programs such as Fine Art, Education, Graphic Design, Game Design, Animation, Illustration, Interior Design, and Architecture.

Grade Eleven Photography- there is no prerequisite for this course. This course is an introduction to the History of Photography, the Art of Composition, the Elements and Principles of Design, and how to take a black and white photograph from start to finish. Through a variety of projects, students will learn how to load film, take a picture, develop film, enlarge an image, and develop an image!
