French

FSF1DI

Level: Academic

This course provides opportunities for students to communicate in French about personally relevant, familiar, and academic topics in real-life situations. Students will exchange information, ideas, and opinions with others in increasingly spontaneous interactions. They will increase their understanding and appreciation of diverse French-speaking communities.

FSF2DI

Level: Academic

This course enables students to increase their knowledge of the French language, further develop their language skills, and deepen their understanding and appreciation of francophone culture around the world. Exploring a variety of themes, students will develop and apply critical thinking skills in discussion, in their analysis and interpretation of texts, and in their own writing.

FSF2PI

Level: Applied

The course provides opportunities for students to communicate in French about everyday matters and topics of personal interest in real-life situations. Students will develop their language knowledge and skills by using language-learning strategies to interpret texts and communicate clearly. They will increase their understanding and appreciation of diverse French-speaking communities.

FSF3UI

Level: University Preparation

This course draws on a variety of themes to promote extensive development of reading and writing skills and to reinforce oral communication skills. Students will gain a greater understanding of French-speaking cultures in Canada and around the world through their reading of a variety of materials, including a short novel or a play. Students will produce various written assignments. The use of correct grammar and appropriate language conventions in both spoken and written French will be emphasized throughout the course.

Level: University Preparation

This course emphasizes the consolidation of communication skills required to interact in French. Students will enhance their knowledge of the language and culture through the study of Canadian and international French literature. They will enrich their understanding and appreciation of diverse French-speaking communities.

This introductory German course is designed to enable students to begin to develop competence in listening, speaking, reading, and writing. This course provides opportunities for students to communicate and interact in the language, with a focus on familiar topics related to their daily lives. They will also explore aspects of culture in regions of the world where the language is spoken.

Level: University Preparation

This German course offers students opportunities to further develop competence and confidence in listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Students will continue to develop language knowledge and skills by using language-learning strategies and creative and critical thinking skills. This course will also provide opportunities for students to communicate and interact in German about relevant and familiar topics as well as allow them to further enhance their understanding and appreciation of the culture in regions of the world where the language is spoken.

Level: University Preparation

This German course prepares students for postsecondary studies. Students will continue to refine and enhance their listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills, with the goal of using these communication skills in a variety of personal, academic, and professional contexts. Students will use language-learning strategies in relevant situations and will continue to develop their creative and critical thinking skills while interacting with a variety of oral and written texts. Students will enrich their understanding and appreciation of the culture in regions of the world where the language is spoken.
