Kia ora Woodlands Park whānau,
Following a period of engagement with our school community, the Woodlands Park School Board is pleased to let you know that we have formally applied to the Ministry of Education to extend our year levels from Year 1–6 to a Full Primary (Year 1–8).
We aim to give families the choice of keeping their children in a full primary setting through to Year 8, or moving on to an intermediate school—whichever best suits your child’s needs.
As part of this process, the Ministry of Education will be consulting with neighbouring schools in our local area. This consultation will begin once the incoming boards are elected and will take approximately 8–12 weeks. If our application is successful, any change to our year levels could take between 6 and 12 months. Should we be successful, this could potentially mean expanding in 2027. The networks team at the Ministry of Education is running the consultation, and we will endeavour to keep you informed of any progress along the way as we follow the application process. This may seem a long way off, but given the process, it's not unreasonable.
We value and appreciate your support as we respond to the feedback from our community, and we look forward to working alongside you to provide the very best educational opportunities for all our tamariki.
Ngā mihi nui,
Nardz Stephenson
On behalf of the Board

NZEI Union Meeting - Tues 19 September
NZEI (New Zealand Institute of Education) Te Riu Roa has called a Paid Union Meeting for its members. NZEI is the union that covers principals, teachers and support staff.
This meeting for teachers who are union members has been scheduled to start at 1.30pm, Tuesday 19th August 2025.
As a large number of our teaching staff will be attending this meeting, we encourage you to collect your child/children at 12.30pm on Tuesday 19th August . However, if you are unable to do so there will be some staff (non union members) remaining at school to provide supervision for that afternoon.
Your child can be collected from their class at 12.30pm. From 12.40pm all children who are still at school go to the hall and will be split amongst the remaining teachers.

The announcement you’ve been waiting for is finally here: WPS Quiz Night tickets will be available via Kindo from next week!
The social event of the season is happening on September 13th at the Titirangi RSA. This year the theme is ‘Glitterati’ so come dressed in your glitteriest, sparkliest, most glamourous outfit (or as a favourite celebrity) and join us for a night of trivia, laughs and some banging tunes!
Come along, put some names to faces, make new friends and have a great night out right in your own neighbourhood. No expensive ubers to the CBD required. Gather up a group of friends and buy a table of 8 or just grab individual tickets and we’ll get you sorted with a team on the night. Tickets are $35 each and include entry to the quiz, disco and some hot food to help keep you fuelled up for the trivia battle.
Doors will open at 7pm and the quiz itself will kick off at 7:30. We’re expecting that part of the evening to wrap up by 10pm, at which point we’ll ditch all the tables and free up the dancefloor for a bit of a disco. Can’t let the kids have all the fun!
There’ll also be a silent auction, raffles and prizes for the best dressed tables and quiz winner
We're raising funds for a big refresh and renewal of the WPS playground – a perfect excuse for dressing up and getting out of the house!
Tickets will be available from early next week so watch this space and get in quick. The last one was a sell out and we’re sure this one will be too.
If you (or someone you know) has a business that would like to donate something to the auction, we’d love to hear from you!
Whether it’s an hour or two of professional expertise (eg: plumbing/ sewing/ cooking/ buildling/ sewing/ gardening/ cleaning), a weekend in a bach, a piece of art, a voucher or something we haven’t even thought of, we’d love to add it to the auction lots and give the donor a bunch of free promotion across the wider school community. Please speak to Nick Gill nickg@woodlandspark.school.nz if you have something you’re able to offer.
We’ll also be running a few hamper raffles on the night. If you have any smaller items you’d like to donate that would work well as part of a hamper we’d love for you to drop them in the box we’ll have in the office from next Monday. No item to big or too small!
Got any questions? Hopefully they’ll be covered in the FAQ below but, if not, feel free to contact Belynda on 02102351166.

Quiz Night FAQs
What happens at a quiz night?: Teams of 8 people work together to answer 8 rounds of 10 questions on lots of different topics. There’ll be a lot of laughs, music, food & beverages. It’s an awesome opportunity to get to know more people in the WPS community.
Do I need to be a super quiz star or know lots of stuff about things?: Nope – it’s all in good fun and everyone will have their areas of expertise. Team work makes the dream work and you'll be surprised to discover what random facts are lodged in your brain! There will definitely be a random mix of questions!
Do I need to have a team of 8 people to come along?: Definitely not! You can purchase an entire table for yourself and some friends or just buy individual ticket(s) and we'll help you find a team when you arrive.
Do I really have to dress up?:Absolutely not – you’re an adult and you can wear whatever you feel comfortable in! From our experience, dressing up does make it all a lot more fun though. How often do we really get to go full glam these days? Ok, maybe that’s just us.
Do I really have to dance?: Nope - same deal as the dress up. Do what brings you joy!
What time is it all happening?: Doors will open from 7pm. The quiz will start at 7.30pm and we expect it to finish at around 10:00 with a disco starting straight after that.
Where is the venue?: Titirangi RSA, next to the library at 502 South Titirangi Rd.
How much are tickets?: $35 per person
What does your ticket get you?: Entry into the quiz, a disco, a chance to win prizes and a sharing platter of snacks for each table. Bargain!
Who can come along?: Parents/ caregivers of WPS children and their friends or family. Everyone is welcome (assuming they're over 18).
Can I bring my children?: Yep, sure. But only if they’re over 18
What if I’m hungry/ thirsty?: The ticket price includes finger foods for each table but the RSA kitchen will be open if you want to order more. The bar will be open for you to purchase drinks.
Where will the proceeds go?: We’re fundraising to refresh and enhance the WPS playground! We’ll be adding some much sought after new elements and refreshing the awesome equipment we already have to make sure it all keeps bringing joy to the children at the school and the wider Waima and Woodlands Park community!
Prizes: Prizes will be given out for most glamorous/ sparkly team, the winner and runner up of the quiz
Donations: It's not too late! If you would like to donate an item, experience or service for prizes or for auctioning on the night please contact Nick Gill: Nickg@woodlandspark.co.nz
It has been a pleaseure hosting students from our sister school in China!
