Kia Ora koutou katoa,
What an awesome term we have had here at Woodlands Park School! From our bee inquiries to Maori language celebrations, our school disco, WPS has talent (indeed!), Green-Gold Enviro reflection celebrations, sporting achievements and a whole lot of learning!
Despite the field being out of use for most of the winter term we have been exceptionally proud of how our students have shown manaakitanga and rangatiratanga playing in a smaller space on the court. Our peer mediators have been fabulous and we appreciate their wonderful leadership as they support our tamariki with any conflict resolution.
Woodlands Park School started its journey as an EFS school 21 years ago and this term we worked collaboratively towards our Green-Gold Reflection Day. The reflection day is made up of a number of components including the opportunity to reflect on our rich history, share our exciting child-centred projects currently within the school and share our possible future next steps. We began our day with a mihi whakatau to welcome our manuhiri (ka mau te wehi te Kapa Haka o Puke Atua)! Students across the school then led our manuhiri through the grounds which included local schools and their EFS students as well the Auckland Council, Regional EFS coordinator and our local Ranger. WPS shared what we have been working on over the last couple of years and how these projects are contributing to building a more sustainable environment. After a shared lunch we exchanged ideas and insights among our students, staff and manuhiri which was inspiring and reaffirmed our commitment to sustainability.
Although a number of people have been involved in the process, I would like to acknowledge and celebrate our EFS Leader Micah Haughton. Micah is a treasured kaitiaki of our school and from everyone we absolutely thank him for his dedication and passion in not only working with our students but our staff also. Thank you for all of your hard work Micah, you are amazing!
Our Woodlands Park staff have continued with professional development this term, our PLD has consisted of modules of learning about Autism& Anxiety, Maths progressions of Learning and Numicon, EOTC systems and Risk Analysis, The Arts - Sound Art, Structured Literacy and Te Ao Maori. We are really excited about the difference that our structured literacy teaching is making with our students and I’d also like to thank Tania Chaney our LSC for her numicon maths work she has been doing with our Year 4 students this term.
A couple of weeks ago I attended the NZ Principals Conference along with 600 NZ Principals. The education sector is most definitely being used as a political football with the upcoming election around the corner. We know at Woodlands Park School that our teachers, support staff and leaders are doing an incredible job. Our commitment to delivering the curriculum with excellence and equity is confirmed by our Education Review Office who have invited us to take part in some work with them next year to learn about our implementation of the NZ histories curriculum.
Finally, I would like to thank everyone for their efforts in supporting the school with fundraising this term. There has been a lot of activity and we are so grateful for your support. I wish everyone a safe and happy holiday break and look forward to a fabulous Term 4!
Ngaa mihi,
Nardz Stephenson

Next term our Year 4 and 5 students will have the opportunity to sell chocolate to support their individual camp costs.
Information will be out early October.
Our school does not support students bringing drinks such as fizzy, energy, or caffeinated drinks to school. This includes the popular PRIME drink.
We reserve the right to remove these drinks and return them at the end of the day.
Our Year 5 & 6 netball teams competed in the Kelston Cluster competition last week. We had a mix of wins and losses and all the players were fantastic on the day. Special mention to out Year 6 team who were 1st place in their grade!
That brings our netball season to an end for 2023 and a big thank you to all the coaches, managers, parent helps and car-poolers. We will have a special netball assembly next term. Date tbc.
