10 Poutū-te-rangi 2023
Kia Ora koutou katoa!
We are all still on a high following on from Cross Country, Te Ahi Ora and our annual triathlon. We are so proud of our tamariki and their perseverance in new and challenging opportunities they have engaged with over the past couple of weeks.
Our classes have settled into the new school year and are enjoying new learning. We have read many fabulous stories written by all ages recounting exciting school-wide events and some of our students’ stories have been published in the Titirangi Round-About.
Our school board meet twice a term to work collaboratively towards our commitment to the NELPS (National Educational Learning Priorities) and to progress our localised curriculum needs and strategic goals.
Our 2023 annual plan supports our strategic goals, which are to;
Strengthen student progress & achievement
Strengthen wellbeing through HauOra
Strengthen our connection with Te Ao Maori
All stakeholders are working together to ensure the very best outcomes for our students.
We welcome children from Titirangi Kindergarten and their families along with their 4 fabulous kindy teachers as they move onsite with us. The Titirangi Kindergarten building on South Titirangi Road is no longer habitable following the Auckland floods. Titirangi Kindy will operate in the Room 19/20 area, which will be fenced off in keeping with AKA health & safety. We look forward to extending our manaaki to this community after being displaced - we will send further information shortly with details of mihi whakatau.
The school recently completed its recruitment process and we welcome from the beginning of Term 2 Mrs Caroline Faulkner to Room 15. Caroline is an experienced teacher and we look forward to her settling in soon! We will farewell Sarah at the end of the term and thank her for stepping in to support the school through to the end of the term.
Esther from Vision West - Counsellor
Julie, Michelle & Tracey - Love your Brain
Louise - Oaklynn Special School
Amy - Music Education (piano & guitar)
We hosted Nathan Wallis in 2020 and we are excited to announce that he is coming back to Woodlands Park School next month! Go to our Facebook Page for details and get in quickly to book your tickets.
After a couple of years of covid affecting our ability to run events, we held our first PTA meeting this week in 2 years! We had a superb turn out and we are looking forward to supporting fundraising and events in the school. Congratulations to Joanne Burgess who was nominated as Chair and also to Ann Jensen who is continuing in the role of Secretary. If you were unable to attend but are interested in getting involved, please contact the office and your details will be forward to Ann-Margaret.
Our preferred method of communication is our school Facebook Page - as it is quick to push out posts as well as giving a ‘window’ into every day school life. We do duplicate via Etap any important communication however, so you can always be assured that you will receive relevant information.

We are not planning to have any other Teacher Only days this year. However, the Ministry of Education may direct a further teacher only day (later in the year) for curriculum changes. We will give as much notice as possible if this is the case.
A nationwide teacher strike has been scheduled by NZEI for Thursday 16 March 2023.
Woodlands Park School will have reduced teaching staff (less than 50%)on this day and are unable to provide a normal school day. Please make alternative arrangements for the care of your child/children on the day of the strike.
If your child requires supervision please fill out this form. Please note that we are limited to the number of children we can supervise and may go to a ballot if needed.
Thank you for your support as our teachers continue to negotiate for an education system that supports all stakeholders to reach their full potential.

We would like to congratulate our principal. Nardz has been nominated as vice-president of the Waitakere Area Principals Association.
Nardz has served the Kelston Cluster as President for the past 2 years and sits on the executive board for WAPA. She has been active in setting up support for first time principals across the west and mentors and welcomes those new to Principalship in the West.
She was recently nominated as Vice President for WAPA who lead approximately 100 schools - making it the largest association for Principals in NZ. Nardz will also step into Acting President next term (as the current president goes on Sabbatical). She will continue to represent the region addressing the many complex needs in the sector and we wish her well as she continues important work advocating for children in the west down in Wellington.
A huge thank you to all those who came to our first PTA meeting of 2023!
It’s not too late to join. We have another get together very soon with more information to come.
Congratulations:
Ann Jensen - secretary
Joanne Burgess - chair
To assist us in teaching our water skills program, we are on the lookout for a few more child size life jackets. They are only to be used in and out of the pool so don't have to be anything fancy, just the traditional style buoyancy vest and not the inflatable ones.
If you have any that you no longer use, please drop them into Lee in Room 8. Many thanks!
As you may know, Summer is part of our Woodlands Park School Whanau and she has Angelman Syndrome.
2023 is the 10th anniversary of International Angelman Day. They are hoping to raise $10,000 by the end of the year.
These funds will go towards establishing an Angelman syndrome registry in NZ and an AS clinic in Auckland, and to support families to access the clinics. Please show your support by donating to their give-a-little page.
