Term 2 | Week 2 | 2022
13 May 2022
Kia Ora everyone,
It has been awesome for our students to get back into sports at the beginning of this term. A lot of fun was had as we competed with Laingholm School in the pool. Our competitors and support crew were on form and gave it 100%. Although we didn’t pick up the trophy, we are keen to compete again in another sport with Laingholm and take the best from 3! Huge thanks to Nick, Lee, Tania and Wayde for all of their organisation.
Our cross country trials also went ahead last week, and we look forward to our first trip out to Konini for interschool cross country soon.
Thank you for supporting the school whilst we continue to navigate protocols at ‘Orange’ of the CPF. Our best protection strategy is wearing masks. We are strongly urging our Y4-6 students to continue wearing masks indoors please. As a school we are now struggling to cover teachers who go into an isolation period of 7 days (as there are not enough relievers available in Auckland). If you could please help us by supporting your children to do this for their teachers and staff, it would be greatly appreciated.
There are many projects on the go at the moment as we continue to maintain and improve our school grounds. Our new admin build continues, but we no longer have a completion date due to material delays impacted by covid. Throughout the holidays we carried out electrical upgrades and shortly we will be going through concept design for a full renovation and upgrade to R11-13 buildings.
We are looking forward to learning more about our New Zealand histories through the new curriculum and will share our students’ learning with you soon, as they delve into the great adventures of our ancestors voyages.
Ngaa mihi,
Nardz Stephenson

Ka rawe all our tamariki who had a go at the cross country! So great to see so many children trying out. Next week our top 6 runners in each age group will compete at Kōnini School for the championship.
COVID-19 will still be in the community this winter so stay alert - even if you’ve had it before.
Remember these five important tips from Auckland Regional Public Health Service:
Be vaccinated. Vaccination is the best protection against getting very sick from COVID-19. Everyone aged 5 or over can get free COVID-19 vaccinations. It doesn’t matter what your visa or citizenship status is.
Keep up healthy habits: Healthy habits can protect you from lots of winter illnesses - not just COVID-19. They include washing and drying your hands well and often, wearing a mask (especially inside), and coughing/sneezing into a tissue or your elbow – not your hands.
Be alert for symptoms: If you or anyone in your household has any cold or flu-like symptoms, stay at home and free-call Healthline: 0800 358 5453. They will tell you what to do, including how to get a test. Healthline is available 24/7, with interpreters available. In an emergency (for example if someone is having difficulty breathing), immediately dial 111 for an ambulance. COVID-related medical care is free.
Stay home if you live with someone with COVID-19: Everyone living in a household with someone who has COVID-19 needs to isolate for seven days – not just the person with COVID. Please do not send your child in if they live with someone who has COVID-19, even if they are well.
Check: is your whānau up-to-date? Now’s a good time to check that your whānau is protected against other diseases like measles, mumps, rubella and pertussis (whooping cough). With New Zealand’s borders re-opening, there’s a greater risk of serious diseases like measles arriving here. Talk to your doctor, or check your own health records (such as your Plunket or Well Child/Tamariki Ora book) to see if everyone’s up-to-date with their immunisations.
