Term 1 | Week 3 | 2022
Raapare 17 `o Poutuu-te-Rangi 2022 Thursday 17 of February 2022
Kia Ora koutou katoa,
Thank you for the tremendous support from everyone with following our school’s safety protocols - it is much appreciated.
Our covid response procedures are reviewed and updated daily. The advice from MOH and MOE change rapidly and so it’s important we keep up to date with relevant information. Nick our DP has created a link to FAQ’s which is available on our website, but if you have any questions or are unsure about anything covid related please do not hesitate to email the office and we will get back to you as soon as possible.
Thank you for completing the home-school partnership survey. I would like to thank you for your open and honest feedback about how Covid has and continues to affect and impact families. We are particularly aware of the strain on all those who have not been able to see their overseas families and the heartache that carries. I would encourage you to continue to build safe networks of support with those in our community and please continue to reach out to the school should you need to.
Our teachers are currently testing students individually in Reading, Writing and Maths. This is a thorough and time consuming process as the teacher works 1-1 to collate academic data within these 3 areas of the curriculum. We are working together as a school to then collect and analyse data to ensure we can support your child as much as possible over the coming months due to the number of interruptions to learning over the past 2 years. Our teachers at Woodlands Park are effective practitioners who are reflective and who continually plan classroom programmes to ensure progress and achievement.
Events
With the move to Red - Phase 2 of the Covid Protection Framework (CPF) we are reviewing the upcoming events on our School Calendar. The first of these to be affected is our annual Triathlon originally scheduled for Friday 25 February. Unfortunately as this will not be able to proceed in its usual format we will be cancelling the event. We are, however, planning to hold a fun run towards the end of the term and will let you know more closer to the date.
A number of students have approached me and asked if they could have a Wheels day. I think this is a fab idea and we will send out information with dates etc soon!
Noho ora mai,
Nardz Stephenson Principal
We have created a webpage which we will try to keep up to date with the latest information and questions about COVID, contact tracing and what happens if we have a case at the school.
Lost property will hung out on the fence in the hall carpark every Friday afternoon.
Please make sure all items of clothing and swimwear are well-labelled.
We are aware that with the current building project, parking can be at a premium outside school! Please do not block driveways, particularly on Jays Rd. Please check for children walking. And above all: slow down.
Our 2022 Road Patrollers have been training and will soon be ready to go on patrol. If you see children waiting to cross, consider stopping even if the signs aren't out.
Thank you for keeping our roads safe.
The increase in online learning over the past 2 years has meant our students (and ourselves) have become more ‘online’. Along with the extra screen time and connectedness comes new safety challenges for all of us.
In each newsletter I will have a snippet of advice from Netsafe (netsafe.org.nz) to support you with the challenges of online safety, online bullying, gaming, and privacy. I think there is some fantastic practical advice in here. I’d encourage you to take a moment to read through it and discuss some of the relevant sections with your child. If you'd like to read it all in one go, you can view the full article here.
In the coming weeks, a new student user agreement will be coming home. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions about online safety nickg@woodlandspark.school.nz
