Term 1 | Week 9 | 2021
29 March 2021
Kia Ora koutou,
We are only 3 weeks away from the end of term one with Easter also fast approaching!
For many, this term has been a continuation of the impact of Covid-19 disruptions and the uncertainty that this brings. Having 2 lockdowns at Level 3 in Auckland in such a short space of time has been hard on everyone and we thank you all for your amazing support as we continue to do our very best.
My teaching staff continue to discuss and plan for student progress and achievement, with particular attention to learning in homes at alert level 3. When we have compared distance learning 2020 and distance learning 2021 we have noticed less students submitting work and less students connecting online with their teachers. Inevitably, we may find ourselves between alert levels again throughout the year. We are really keen to hear from you, so that we can support our students as much as possible during these times. We will send out a survey this week should you wish to give us some feedback about distance learning.
After 34 years commitment to the education profession and continual classroom teaching (22 years at Woodlands Park School), David Butterworth will be taking refreshment leave for 12 months from the beginning of Term 2. We wish David all the best as he takes time to refresh and re-energise with his family at this time.
We are appreciative of the efforts of our PTA and parents who support our sausage sizzles. This term they have raised approx $1000.00. We are super excited about the Brick Show coming up soon and look forward to seeing you all there.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Pigeon Mountain School (Bucklands Beach), this week. It is a reminder to all of us to exercise patience and road safety at all times when dropping off and picking up our kids.
Finally, like many of you I was so proud of our students who ran their hearts out at our school cross country. To our place getters a huge congratulations - and to every single child who crossed the finish line - your resilience and commitment to get the job done was awesome!
Take care everyone and have a safe and happy Easter break,
Nardz Stephenson

Kate Parker, mother of Kowhai, who attended Woodlands Park School, popped into the library yesterday to donate a copy of her stunning picture book. This book is the end result of Kate’s splendid light box creations which are currently on display at Smith & Caughey. From Monday
29 March they will be on display at Arataki Visitor Centre until the beginning of May. They are sure to provide inspiration for dioramas. This is what Kate wrote in the donated book, “Poipoia te kānano Kia puawai. Nurture the seed and it will blossom – Arohanui from Kowhai’s whanau to Woodlands Park School.”

We are pleased to have been awarded a grant from the Waitakere Ranges Local Board to continue funding the community commercial compost bins for another year! Thanks also to all those who have donated during the year to keep this project going until now.
The community commercial compost bins are located in the hall carpark, and can take any food scraps (including meat), as well as compostable packaging. The bins are available for use by school families as well as the wider local community.
