Term 4 | Week 9 | 2020
11 December 2020
Kia Ora koutou katoa,
I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank everyone for their incredible support during a year of uncertainty with Covid and all its complexities. I am grateful for your communication and understanding of things being quite a bit out of the norm for 2020. We don’t know what 2021 will bring, but if Covid is teaching us anything, it has definitely forced us to prioritise the things that we value and appreciate most in life. The highlight for me when bringing the school year to a close is always the children. They have all done so remarkably well despite the disruptions this year and as always remain engaged and a pleasure to interact with. On behalf of the entire WPS staff, I wish all of our kids a happy and relaxing Christmas break.
It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Shelley’s mum at the end of last week. Lisa was a teacher aide for us this year and worked in Room 5. Lisa will be remembered for her commitment to do her very best always for the children in her care. Our thoughts and prayers remain with Shelley and her family and today some of our staff will attend Lisa’s funeral.
To all of our families of our year six students, as your children finish their primary years of education and head off to intermediate, please remember they don’t step out into this transition on their own but rather with the love and support of their Woodlands Park whanau behind them. To our Board of Trustees and all the staff and of course our families and children, thank you for your support in 2020. I wish you all a peaceful and reflective holiday season.

We are pleased to have been awarded a grant from the Waitakere Ranges Local Board to continue funding the community commercial compost bins for another year! Thanks also to all those who have donated during the year to keep this project going until now.
The community commercial compost bins are located in the hall carpark, and can take any food scraps (including meat), as well as compostable packaging. The bins are available for use by school families as well as the wider local community.
We are training up next year's Road Patrollers. You may see more patrollers than usual this week!

The Marrzipan Drama Holiday Workshop is back by popular demand and is running from Monday 18 January 2021 to Friday 22 January 2021 at Hobsonville Primary School!
Students will devise their own play from scratch, create characters, direct each other, design the set, bring in costumes and get to perform to family and friends at the end of the final day!
As well as having fun, the children develop confidence and public speaking ability, in a fun, relaxed environment. Past workshops have been a great hit, see last year’s video for yourself:

The classes are designed for beginners of all ages, boys and girls, they are not exam orientated. Tuesday Lunchtimes Jazz, the children bring their lunch and water bottle to the hall, and get a 45 minute dance class.
The cost of this is $125 per term.
