Weekly Highlights
Horizons Week was an extraordinary experiential learning opportunity, transforming the world into our students' classroom and challenging them to embrace new skills and push the boundaries of their potential. This year, we were proud to offer students 35 unique, enriching opportunities.
Half of our student body embarked on 15 incredible overseas trips, allowing them to explore and ignite new passions across the globe. Adventures ranged from hands-on wildlife conservation efforts in the majestic landscapes of South Africa and breathtaking hiking across the snow-dusted terrain of Mongolia, to a stunning ascent of the Great Wall of China at sunset and insightful higher education tours across the United Kingdom.
A key highlight was the Year 7 Camp, where 180 students and staff tackled a thrilling itinerary designed for maximum growth, teamwork and resilience. Our young explorers conquered high-energy activities like coasteering and kayaking, navigated the ultimate team challenge of 'Island Escape', and learned about sustainability through a hands-on 'Farm-to-Table' experience. The true magic of the camp lies in the incredible resilience built and the unbreakable friendships cemented along the way, creating lifelong memories and connections.
For the remaining students, the adventure was right on our doorstep as they immersed themselves in the vibrant diversity of Hong Kong. Their local exploits were just as thrilling, including mountain biking and camping on Lantau Island, refining skills through golfing in picturesque Sai Kung, and creative exploration with pottery workshops in tranquil Peng Chau.
Six ESF primary schools, including Kennedy School, offered valuable opportunities for our students who are keen on upskilling their services in education. Our students brought their learning experience into primary classrooms, mentoring and inspiring young learners.
We are immensely proud of every student who broadened their horizons and stepped outside their comfort zone during this wonderful week filled with adventure, growth, and unforgettable experiences.
Last week, our Year 11 Geographers applied their studies to the urban landscape of Hong Kong. They spent the day testing the validity of Urban Land Use Models against real-world observations as they crisscrossed the city. The day was dedicated to data collection, including logging building heights, analysing diverse land uses (from commercial warehouses to high-end shops), scoring environmental quality, and conducting comprehensive pedestrian and traffic counts. The students gained valuable practical experience and thoroughly enjoyed this insightful day out.
Thirty IGCSE Geography students left their books behind and headed off for a day of practical fieldwork in the great outdoors. They got their feet wet, investigating the physical processes operating within the Lung Hang River drainage basin. Students took a series of measurements, including river width, depth, bedload size and shape, velocity, and gradient.
The students were keen, highly motivated, and worked superbly well together. Well done to all students and staff for a wonderful day of real-life data collection and excitement.
Year 12 student Haidi made her debut in the 15th National Games as part of the Hong Kong Women's Épée team. The team achieved a 4th-place finish. Congratulations to Haidi on her impressive participation as a key fencer.
Haidi is one of our outstanding student athletes from our High Performance Student Athlete Programme (HPSAP).
