On Wednesday, our campus proudly hosted the 9th Spanish Speech Competition—and celebrated our second consecutive year of victory.
Our talented students excelled in 4 out of 5 categories, showcasing their eloquence in Spanish through captivating poems and songs. The event also featured a vibrant flamenco dance by our Year 7 students and a breathtaking pasodoble performance.
Well done to our language ambassadors Sara, Giorgia, Tanisha, Cherise, Alba, Sean K, Sean L, James, Sarana and Mathias for providing guidance to their peers. A sincere thank you to Year 13 students Cesar, Shruti, Urvi and the Music and Drama Department for their support. This celebration truly reflected our students’ talent, dedication, and the strong community spirit at West Island School.

What an unforgettable night Wednesday was, as Circle in the Water presented Cabaret Night!
Our stage came alive with the very best talent our students have to offer, showcasing dazzling card tricks that left us all spellbound. Our musical theatre stars brought stories to life with powerful vocals, captivating acting, and show-stopping choreography. The passion and dedication in every performance truly shone through.
We were also treated to original guitar compositions that revealed incredible creativity and skill - each note telling its own unique story. The blend of song and dance throughout the evening kept energy high and the audience cheering for more! WIS Singers soothed our souls with sweet harmonies and a real ensemble presence. It was a joy to witness the triumphant final bow of our Year 13 artists, nurturing the emerging talent of our enthusiastic Year 7s.
A heartfelt highlight was the beautiful parent-child collaboration, where fiddle and guitar melodies intertwined, showcasing family talent and the power of music to connect generations.
This event celebrated not only artistic excellence, but also the vibrant spirit and dedication of our students. A huge congratulations to everyone involved - you’ve inspired us all and made this a night to remember. Thank you to our amazing teachers, crew and supportive families for making this magical evening possible. This Thursday, our Year 9 students proudly showcased their Community Projects. The exhibition was a vibrant reflection of their curiosity, inquiry, creativity, social responsibility and personal growth through thoughtful self-awareness. GBA Trip: Innovation & Heritage
This week, 28 students from Years 9 to 12 embarked on a cross-disciplinary adventure in the Greater Bay Area (GBA).
Blending cutting-edge technology with rich cultural heritage, the trip offered students a glimpse into the future at DJI’s drone labs, Xiaomi’s flagship experience store and the GAC Motor Museum. Students also visited cultural landmarks like Zhujiang New Town, the historic Zumiao Temple. The experience sparked curiosity, creativity and a deeper appreciation for responsible innovation.

Year 12 Chemistry students dedicated the entire day to working independently on their Internal Assessments. Deeply engaged in their experiments, they showcased key scientific skills - precise measurement, data collection and analysis - while also developing problem-solving and time management skills. It was a full day of focused inquiry and impressive academic maturity across the lab.

Tuesday lunchtime brought the final session of this year's Summer Concert Series. Once again, our gifted students delighted their enthusiastic audience with outstanding musical performances.
On Wednesday lunchtime, the music room transformed into a stage for rock as our students energised the space with powerful vocals, driving guitar riffs and vibrant enthusiasm.

On Thursday, students from five other ESF secondary schools visited our campus to take part in the Learning Centre Summer Festival. They enjoyed a wide range of activities, including dance, sports, team challenges and STEM workshops. Throughout the activities, students strengthened their teamwork skills and gained greater independence and confidence.

Yesterday afternoon, we celebrated the creative talents of our students from the Learning Support Centre (LSC), along with Michael, a final-year student from JCSRS. Thank you to everyone who attended the opening to support the student artists - Abby, Michael, Nim and Robyn. We wish Abby, Nim and Michael all the best as they embark on the next chapter of their lives following graduation. The exhibition will remain open to the WIS school community until Tuesday, 24 June.

Artistic Gymnast: Ila Chan
Meet the only Hong Kong athlete to win two medals at the 18th Junior Women’s Artistic Gymnastics Asian Championships in Korea!
Year 10 student Ila and her team made history by earning Hong Kong’s first-ever team bronze medal. Ila also claimed an individual bronze on the balance beam and placed 9th all-around—an incredible achievement that highlights her talent, dedication and poise.
HKSSF Boys Badminton
HKSSF Boys Badminton
Our Boys B Grade badminton team finished 2nd in Division 3 in the HKSSF Inter-School Competition, winning over 80% of their matches. The team powered through the group stage, quarterfinals and semifinals before earning silver in a closely contested final. Shout-out to Year 9 student Matthew for a clutch singles win that helped force a tie-breaker.
Across divisions, our Boys Badminton team placed 3rd overall, competing against over 30 schools across ten weeks. Despite challenges, the teams showed remarkable resilience. A Grade co-captains Vedant and Nikhil (Year 12), and B Grade captain Steve (Year 10) accepted the award at the HKSSF ceremony held at Diocesan Boys School.

Last Friday, our WIS Year 7 students played a series of friendly matches with Year 6 footballers from Kennedy School (KS). A big thank you to the teachers and staff from both schools for supporting the students. It was wonderful to see the warm bond between the two school communities.
