IBEL is one of West Island School's community partners and this academic year we have enjoyed being student leaders for this great cause. IBEL support non-Chinese speaking children who attend local schools to help them improve their academic attainment.
We wanted to organise a fun event for them as they have to spend a lot of time studying. After various rounds of planning and altering ideas, IBEL day proved to be a wonderful success. On Saturday 26th April, the 36 children from IBEL came to WIS and engaged in activities such as basketball and dodgeball, guided and supervised by WIS students.
We were elated to hear that 'the children had an absolutely fantastic time...and a wonderfully alleviating experience', according to Manoj Dhar, IBEL's CEO and Co-founder. Mr Dhar said they rated it as 10 out of 10.
Not only did the IBEL children have a great day, we learned how to organise the logistics of an event and developed our leadership and organisational skills in the process. A big thank you to Mrs Murchie, Ms Gilbert, Mr Jordan, and Ms Minter for making it happen! We hope this will be a regular fixture on the school calendar.
Congratulations to Year 10 Jennica Narag who has been selected to be part of the HKSI Hong Kong China’s performance elite pathway in rugby.
This HKSI Academy focuses on identifying and nurturing top youth talent and is instrumental in building a sustainable pipeline for Hong Kong China’s rugby 7’s teams.
