Unleash Creativity in a Book Trailer with a TOK Concept
Aim of the Know-vember Book Trailer Competition
To encourage students to read library books, to reflect the contents in terms of Theory of Knowledge (TOK) concepts, and to present the learning outcomes with the use of multimedia.
Duration of the event: early October – early Dec 2025
Submission period: 10th – 25th November 2025
Participants
2 streams: MYP or Upper school (Yr 10-13)
MYP stream (Yr 7-9)
A. Individual
B. Team work: no more than 3 team members (but you can recruit extra actors and acknowledge their contributions); all group members must stay in the same stream; team members can come from different dynasties
E.g.1 a team of two year 7 students and one Year 9 student, all belonging to the same Dynasty
E.g. 2 a team of two year 8 students coming from two different Dynasties
Upper School stream (Yr 10-13)
A. Individual
B. Team work: no more than 3 team members (but you can recruit extra actors and acknowledge their contributions); all group members must stay in the same stream; team members can come from different dynasties
E.g.1 a team of two year 12 students and one Year 10 student, all belonging to the same Dynasty
E.g. 2 a team of two year 13 students coming from two different Dynasties

Judging criteria
Concept – match the TOK concept concerned? Age appropriate?
Narrative structure – well-planned? Logical development of the concept?
Cinematography – camerawork being supportive of the central concept? Angle techniques used?
Lighting & Sound – did it detract or enhance the work? Sound quality appropriate?
Bonus – any acting, costume, … etc.?
Credits – all third-party sound/graphics/actors… etc. are credited?

Prizes
Book coupons, Wisaccino coupons, ESF souvenirs,
Winners’ entries to be shown on Campus TV (Term 2), and possibly on WIS Facebook, WIS Instagram, WIS Library’s Instagram
How to enter the competition?
Select a book (age-appropriate) from the given lists: Fiction, or Non-Fiction. Books not on the lists will not be qualified for the competition.
For this event, please check out the book from the library counter. Mention to the staff that you need the copy for the Know-vember Book Trailer Competition and you will be granted a prolonged due date (before the Christmas break 2025).
Read the book and interpret the contents in terms of a TOK concept*
Create a book trailer (cinematic), integrating the theme of the book with the TOK concept you selected. See below for the Technical Requirements of the book trailer.
Include credentials of external sources and all participants. For teamwork, please specify the role of each member.
*Theory of Knowledge (TOK) has 12 key concepts that
address the knowledge-making processes. They are:

Responsibility
Truth
Values
Participants, no matter which year level they are, are expected to interpret the concepts according to their current understanding. Prior academic knowledge of these concepts is not necessary, nor will they be judged by the TOK course standards.
Complete the entry form and upload the book trailer by the deadline. Resubmission is not allowed.
Technical requirements of the book trailer
Free to use editing software of your choice but the output must be free of watermarks or company logos,
Length of video: 90 seconds (Max.)
Resolution: Full HD or 1080p
Aspect ratio: 16:9 (landscape)
Copyrights
Videos submitted to the competition must be original, complied with intellectual property rules and regulations. Copyrighted sources such as images and music must be credited to the source, even if you have obtained permission from the copyright holders.
The organizers reserve the right to reuse, reproduce, or authorize the reuse of any part or the whole video and related materials for any publicity, educational, promotional, or design purposes, in any format, at any time, and without additional charge from the event participants.
Notes
The event organizers reserve the right to reject late submissions or entries that do not follow the submission guidelines. In case of any dispute, the event organizers reserve the right of final decision.
The organisers reserve the right to modify, or terminate the event at any time.
