IPC UNIT - Brainwave
Exit Point
Exit Point is the stage of the journey where the children get to revise everything they’ve learned about our unit, share it with others and also celebrate everything that they have achieved. This week we were all prepared to our first exit point as Year 3s.
NUMERACY
Children build on their understanding of number lines and focus on using the number line to 1,000. They are exposed to a variety of number lines, both to and within 1,000 and with different start and end point values, and can work confidently with these

Research, Record and Reflect
This week we learned how we can look after our brains with exciting and fun activities.
NUMERACY
This week we were focused on learning our hundreds, tens and ones. In this small step, children look at the structure of a number by considering how many hundreds, tens and ones it is made up of. As part of this, they are introduced to place value counters.
LITERACY
Students created their own characters and focus on adjectives on their writings.

Knowledge Harvest and Explaining the Theme
This was an opportunity for students to share what they already know (or think they know) about the unit’s theme. This gave them a chance to explore our current thinking and ask questions connected to the theme.
NUMERACY
This week we were focused to learn our Number Line to 100.
LITERACY
This week we have read The Bad Seed and through this story we started to talk about adjectives. An adjective is a describing word. It tells us what something looks, feels, smells, tastes or sounds like.
Roald Dahl is a renowned children’s author, known all over the world for his beloved stories. Born in Llandaff, Wales in the year 1916, to Norwegian parents, he was named after the Norwegian explorer, Roald Amundsen (the first man to reach Antarctica).
Roald Dahl Day is a day dedicated to Roald Dahl's stories. It's celebrated every year on his birthday, the 13th of September, and people worldwide come together to celebrate the magic his stories bring to children everywhere.
Though Roald Dahl wrote many books during his lifetime there are a few notable stories he wrote that have captivated readers worldwide.
The first book Roald Dahl published was 'The Gremlins', which loosely inspired the little creatures in the 1984 Steven Spielberg film of the same name. He’s also written many more magical books, like 'Matilda', 'The BFG' and 'James and the Giant Peach'. Arguably his most famous book is 'Charlie and the Chocolate Factory', which has been made into two films.
On Friday 12th September, we celebrated El Día de la Independencia de México.

Entry Point
What a great way to start the academic year with The Brainwave unit! In this unit we will be learning about our brain and how we can use it to learn lots of new and different things every day, enabling us to gain the knowledge, skills and understanding that we will need to become successful now and in the future.
This unit will help children to understand more about how they learn and what things they can do to improve their learning.
This week we had a chance to visit our Science Lab and use microscopes and touch a cow brain!
NUMERACY
This week children represent numbers to 100 using various methods to show their understanding of place value, including place value charts, base 10 blocks and ten-frames.
LITERACY
This week during the literacy classes we all focused on a book named "My Strong Mind".
Developing the right mindset early on is crucial for a successful, happy life. When children learn putting effort and using the right strategies can help them get better at things, they feel empowered. When they know their brains are capable of growing, they are more confident, resilient, and not afraid to fail!
