Welcome to K2A!
WEEK 5
In IEYC, we talked about our families and our homes. Your children were eager to share their family scrapbooks and to continue to learn about each other.
In Numeracy, we continued to work with sets and begin to sort objects into different groups depending on a given criterion, for example, colour, size, use, etc.
In Phonics, we focused on the /t/ letter sound, as in table, tea, and telephone.
Thank you to everyone who brought an object for our class sound display!
WEEK 4
We explored our four basic feelings/emotions. Children learned how to recognise these emotions in themselves, and we discussed simple strategies for self-regulation when feeling overwhelmed.
When we asked the children what were some of the things that made them feel happy, sad, angry, or worried, these were some of their answers:
Happy: "I feel happy when I play with my mum", " I feel happy when I go to the beach and play in the sand", " It made me feel happy when all my family was at my birthday".
Sad: "I feel sad when my parents travel and I miss them a lot", "Not going to school makes me feel sad, and when I´m sad, I cry", " I get sad when I get hurt".
Angry: "I get angry when my brother takes my toys without asking", "I get angry when my parents scold me", " I get angry when my mum takes my toys away".
Worried: "Nothing worries me", " I feel worried when I´m alone at night", "I get worried when I think that my children (Elmo and Cookie Monster) are not home. I look for them, and I always find them".
In Numeracy, we began to think about sets of different objects. We asked: What makes a set? If the objects are not the same, why are they still part of a set? Examples included a tea set, a doctor’s kit, and more.
In Phonics, we focused on the short /a/ sound, as in apple, ant, and animal (but not as in ape, apron, or acorn).
Thank you to everyone who brought an object for our class sound display!
WEEK 3
We learned how to introduce ourselves, name the main parts of our body, and explore the wonders we can perform with our hands and feet.
In Numeracy, we began the first learning block: Match, Sort and Compare. We will start by exploring pairs, what makes them the same or different?
We also began learning the first letter sound /s/, as in snake, saussage and say. Please continue helping your child identify objects that begin with the /s/ sound.
Thank you to everyone who brought an object for our class sound display!
WEEK 1-2
These photos capture the special moments from our very first two weeks in K2. During this time, we got to know each other, played together, and began adjusting to our new classroom environment.
