Willington Prep - Celebrating 140 years - 1885-2025
What an incredible final week before Half Term! It’s been a fun-packed few days full of highlights: the exciting Year 5 and 6 House Swimming Gala (well done, Earhart!), a fantastic trip to the French Institute (merci, Madame Veloso!), and a brilliant finish with the Year 6 Summer Fair.
In History, we completed our Native American Sioux lapbooks - and we couldn’t be prouder of what we achieved. We deepened our understanding of this remarkable Nation's history while developing our skills in summarising and presenting information. We can’t wait to bring them home after the break!
In Maths, we explored the fascinating links between fractions, decimals, and percentages, helping us see how they connect and why they matter in everyday life. In Latin, we continued our research about Roman beliefs and practices regarding death and burial. We also had time to read the myth of Pyramus and Thisbe and were quite shocked at how much of the story William Shakespeare "borrowed" when he wrote Romeo and Juliet!
In English this week, we has been a grammar revision week, we have focused on word families, word classes and relative clauses and as it is the end of the half term, we have reflected on our learning and set a goal for next half term.
Finally, on Thursday we had a wonderful time exploring a little slice of Paris right here in London. We started our day with a delicious croissant in the park, before heading to the bibliothèque for a brilliant session learning new vocabulary and reading French texts. Lunchtime was a highlight - a tasty French picnic featuring basil and mozzarella, ham and cheese or smoked salmon baguettes (we got to choose before the trip!), followed by mouth-watering pains au chocolat (yum!). In the afternoon, we visited the cinema to watch Long Way North, a French film with English subtitles. We loved the story and were amazed to discover just how much French culture there is to explore in South Kensington. Who knew London had its own Petite Paris?
Have a lovely weekend - see you back on Monday 2nd June!
