Willington Prep - Celebrating 140 years - 1885-2025
23rd May 2025
Well, that went quickly, didn't it? Another half-term completed and so much achieved. It almost felt as though we'd return to normality after being away for a week in the Lake District; however, Year 6 have been at it again with their summer fair this afternoon, which was a roaring success. Thankfully, the good weather stayed with us throughout the week, apart from a small shower on Wednesday—although I did feel as though it was raining for most of the afternoon under my jester's hat! It was clear that enormous effort had gone into each of the stalls that the children had created. This was reflected in the fun that all the children were having when they came to visit the fair. Thank you for your support. Thank you to all the staff who assisted Year 6 in preparing for this event, and also to the children for the hard work they put in getting their businesses together and making this such an enjoyable occasion.
This week we started with an assembly held by the Small Steps charity. This is the charity our children have been raising money, which goes towards educational provision for children with physical disabilities and their families. The charity helps children aged from birth to five years in all areas of development, using the principles of conductive education. Based in Richmond, it has no secure funding streams and relies entirely on charitable programmes and sponsored events such as ours. This afternoon we haven't totalled the final amount, but I'm sure the children will have raised a substantial sum for this very worthwhile charity.
Hot on the heels of the Lake District trip (see video below), this week also saw another outdoor adventurous day for the Pre-Prep department, who visited Wimbledon Common. Not only were Pre-Prep out and about, but Year 3 also had their outdoor learning day on Wednesday, and the French trip took place on Thursday for Year 5.
Year 1 parents were in school to watch Year 1 in their class assembly on Thursday, and it was wonderful to see so many there to support the children as they delivered their lovely assembly. This week also saw our first house swimming gala for children in Years 5 and 6. Earhart House came out as the winners, which has really set the cat amongst the pigeons for the house trophy at the end of this term.
There is still much to come before the end of term, with a number of significant events on the calendar. The first weekend back after half-term we have our Golf Day at Silvermere Golf Club, followed by Sports Day, Celebration Day, and of course the 140th Anniversary Summer Gala event. If you haven't already got your tickets, please do join us for this historic event—see the image below.
I hope you all have a fantastic half-term break, and I look forward to seeing you all upon your return on Monday, 2nd June. KB
