Willington Prep - Celebrating 140 years - 1885-2025
This week, we delved into the fascinating world of arachnids, weaving spiders into every part of our learning! In Art, we got creative making spindly paper plate spiders, carefully adding wiggly legs and googly eyes. Out in the forest, we used natural materials to sculpt spiders from clay and twigs, letting our imaginations run wild. We also practised fine motor skills by threading webs through holes, creating our very own mini masterpieces.
Our Maths learning continued with subtraction, using minibeast-themed problems and practical activities to help us take numbers away and count what remained. In phonics, we focused on the 'er' sound—just like at the end of "spider"—and came up with lots of our own 'er' words.
The week ended with an exciting forest challenge: building a giant wool web among the trees! We worked as a team to wrap, weave, and stretch the yarn into a massive web, then had to carefully manoeuvre our way through it without getting caught—just like clever little spiders ourselves.
And in amongst all this learning and exploring, we even managed to start rehearsing for our class assembly after half term. We can’t wait to share our hard work and creativity with everyone!
It’s been a wonderfully adventurous week, full of learning, creativity, and fun—what a tangled web we’ve enjoyed together!
We wish everyone a restful half-term break.
