Willington Prep - Celebrating 140 years - 1885-2025
Thank you to everyone who visited the Travelling Book Fair, we hope you are enjoying the books you chose. Also a BIG thank you to everyone who donated books for the Children's Book Project to share with families who are less fortunate.
This week we have enjoyed reading more of ‘Goodnight Mister Tom’ and seeing the positive impact of evacuation. We have also been looking at all the narrative features within a newspaper article, as well as planned our own newspaper article, in preparation for writing next week. In Maths this week, we investigated the angles of regular polygons and rounded off our learning with a trip down memory lane by using Turtle Logo to create them. The heptagon proved especially tricky and caused quite a bit of frustration!
In Spanish, we have been expanding our knowledge of days of the week and months of the year, alongside revising numbers up to 31. We have been practising how to ask and answer the question “¿Qué fecha es hoy?” (What is the date today?), as well as talking about our birthdays by asking and answering “¿Cuándo es tu cumpleaños?” (When is your birthday?).
In Science this week, we have been finishing our project to create a digital book on the topics of Acids and Bases as well as Ocean Acidification. We also tested 12 different solutions to determine their pH values using universal indicator strips and the red cabbage indicator. Our conclusion was that both methods are not very reliable. The most accurate results would have been obtained using a pH probe. In Computing, we revisited Google Sheets and how to enter formulas for basic calculations including one variable.
In Humanities this week, we explored the advantages and challenges of living by the coast, looking at issues like coastal erosion and unstable job markets. We then took on the challenge of considering what might happen if London were located on the coastline. Some of us wrote persuasive arguments about whether this would be a good idea, while others created consequence flow diagrams. Some even thought outside the box and designed a news website with articles! It was great fun to share our ideas with each other.
Finally, in Drama this week, we completed our character script read-through of the Leavers' Production. Next week, we will begin blocking, which will involve getting to grips with stage directions and beginning to add movement to scenes.
Have a great weekend!
